First up is the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.squaremeal.co.uk/restaurants/best/uk-top-100-restaurants_238" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">SquareMeal 100</a>, a list that’s created from a compilation of diner votes and in-house restaurant critic opinion, with three Devon eateries making the cut. Topping the list was a new entry –&nbsp;<a href="https://hamptonmanor.com/grace-savour/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Grace &amp; Savour</a>, the restaurant of the gorgeous Hampton Manor retreat in the West Mids, famous for its 15-course tasting menu.

Here in Devon, it was <a href="https://lympstonemanor.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lympstone Manor</a>, near Exmouth, which came in highest at 59 on the list. The plush 5-star hotel was described as the &#8216;the jewel in Michael Caines’ crown&#8217;, with menus &#8216;developed around the local southwest larder&#8217;. All that, plus the chic new resident and members-only <a href="https://lympstonemanor.co.uk/hotel/the-pool-house-restaurant-and-bar/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pool House Restaurant &amp; Bar </a>which opened in 2022.

Hot on Lympstone Manor&#8217;s heels and ranked 60th in the list is the <a href="https://www.masonsarmsdevon.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Masons Arms</a> at Knowstone, a 13th century thatched inn with one Michelin star run by Mark &amp; Sarah Dodson, on the edge of Exmoor and conveniently located just off the Atlantic Highway.

According to SquareMeal, the pub is cottagecore but &#8216;the food is anything but frilly &#8211; this is expertly mastered, gutsy pub grub.&#8217;

Ranking 79 is relative newcomer on the Devon scene, <a href="https://www.glebehousedevon.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Glebe House</a> at Colyton, a country guest house and foodie retreat inspired by Italian agrotourismos (working farms with accommodation and small restaurants) with insta-friendly interiors. Here has &#8216;food worth travelling for&#8230; made almost entirely from produce grown or reared on site.&#8217;



Hardens was the other restaurant guide to release its favourites. The&nbsp;<a href="https://www.hardens.com/top-100-uk-restaurants/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Harden’s Top 100 Best UK Restaurants list 2023</a> has two from Devon making the cut.

Restaurants only get considered for inclusion in the Hardens list if they go way beyond offering a good meal, so interiors, wine list, views, service, and sustainability all come into play, so no surprise <a href="https://lympstonemanor.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lympstone Manor</a> once again ticked the boxes, snaffling 24th place in the list. Hardens rated the beautiful food and that stunning location above the River Exe, signing off with: &#8216;Watch out Gidleigh Park.&#8217;

But <a href="https://www.gidleigh.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gidleigh Park</a> didn&#8217;t go away empty-handed. Andrew Brownsword&#8217;s luxury Dartmoor hotel and restaurant scooped 84th place on the list, with Hardens praising the service and ambience &#8216;as always, unsurpassed&#8217;&nbsp;and&nbsp;&#8216;Chris Eden’s menu is superb.&#8217;
