<p>Found at Sideshore on Queens Drive in Exmouth,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.heydaysdevon.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Heydays</a>&nbsp;has absolutely won the location lottery. Floor to ceiling windows frame those big show-offy sea views, and there’s a handy car park right outside (because no one wants to parallel park before coffee). Formerly Mickeys Beach Bar &amp; Restaurant (part of Michael Caines&#8217; stable)&nbsp;Heydays&nbsp;swung open its doors in late 2024 for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a view.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe">THE VIBE&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Understated coastal sanctuary meets Scandi-cool. Yes, the panoramic sea views are spectacular, but this isn&#8217;t a place lazily trading on its postcode. Think organic textures, earthy warm and that effortless ‘we just threw this together’ aesthetic that absolutely was not just thrown together. It’s contemporary rustic, bright but intimate, airy yet cosy. Basically it’s right up my street.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There’s outdoor seating ready to come into its own in summer, but for now we bagged a prime indoor perch and soaked up the views from the warmth, thank you very much. Upstairs was calm and relaxed; downstairs had more of a buzzy brunch energy. Choose your mood accordingly.&nbsp;</p>

<p>We rolled in for brekkie (served until around 11am) and, with a varied selection of hot plates, I opted for the Aussie (smashed avo, lime, salsa matcha and poached eggs on sourdough).</p>

<p>My lifelong veggie plus-one went vegan (mushroom, tomato, smashed avo, sautéed potatoes, house beans, scrambled tofu and toast). Portions? Generous to the point of defeat. Neither of us managed to finish. </p>

<p>Did that stop us diving headfirst into the inviting pastries made onsite on their own bakery? Let’s not be silly. Resistance is futile.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Should you choose to dine past breakfast, the kitchen is open for lunch and dinner daily, and runs a monthly Indian Supper Club (next dates 19 March and 23rd April 2026). Prefer a sundowner? A fully licensed bar with a strong cocktail (and mocktail) list is available, and it’s £18 for two cocktails on Relish Wednesdays from 5pm.</p>

<p>Yes, there&#8217;s a ramp to the entrance and step-free access to the ground floor, plus a lift.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Absolutely. There’s a dedicated Little Monsters menu, so small humans are very much catered for, plus plenty of high chairs to go round.</p>

<p>Yes, well behaved doggos welcome. Seafront brunch with your four legged bestie? Ideal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>With two miles of golden sand and that glorious southwest coastline stretching out in both directions, you’re perfectly placed for a pre- or post-brunch stomp. Sideshore itself is a community hub and close by you’ll find&nbsp;<a href="https://www.edgewatersports.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Edge Watersports</a> for lessons in kitesurfing, wingsurfing (new to me too) and paddleboarding; <a href="https://charliesbeachschool.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Charlie’s Beach School</a> for beach cleans, rockpool rambles and crafty coastal sessions for kids; and <a href="https://ellasdevon.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ella’s Studio</a> for coastal inspired art. You could easily make a morning, or full day of it.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-muddy-verdict">THE MUDDY VERDICT</h2>

<p>Arguably one of the best coastal spots in Devon for a bite if sea views are your love language (they’re certainly mine). The food was faultless and the pastries deserving of a special shout-out. Personally, I’d love to see a couple of lighter, cold breakfast options on the menu; a smoothie would have gone down a treat for my non hot drinking plus-one. Always excited by interiors; the cosy, considered vibe made it easy to linger a little longer while our food went down and I’d love to come back for a curry.&nbsp;</p>



<p><strong>Good for</strong>: a long lazy lunch with friends. A glass of wine at sunset. Or a reflective solo coffee watching the tide roll in.&nbsp;</p>



<p><strong>Not for</strong>: those craving a super healthy start to the day &#8211; there aren’t currently any fruit forward or smoothie breakfast options.&nbsp;</p>



<p><strong>The damage</strong>: at just under £45 for two full breakfasts, fruit juice, coffee and a couple of pastries it’s absolutely reasonable for the amount we put away.&nbsp;</p>
