<p>Pack your picnic blanket and prepare for three glorious days of outdoor cinema against the jaw-dropping backdrop of Powderham Castle. Set within the castle&#8217;s magnificent medieval grounds, this much-loved summer event is serving up cult classics, street food, a fully stocked bar and films beneath the sun &#8211; and later the stars. </p>



<p>Running from 14 &#8211; 16 Aug, the line up includes <strong>Jurassic Park</strong>&nbsp;(Fri 14 Aug), <strong>Sing</strong> and <strong>Mamma Mia! Extrabbaganza </strong>(Sat 15 Aug), plus <strong>The Gruffalo and Stick Man, Andrea Bocelli 30: The Celebration </strong>and <strong>Pretty Woman</strong> (Sun 16 Aug). One for families, film buffs and anyone who likes their cinema with a side of castle views. </p>

<p>Summer screenings return to&nbsp;Saltram House&nbsp;this May, with sing-a-longs and feel-good favourites set against the grand façade of the National Trust mansion. From 22 – 24 May, bring your own picnic or tuck into the hot food available on site before settling in on the lawn.</p>



<p>The programme includes <strong>Wicked Sing-a-long </strong>(Fri 22 May), <strong><strong>Mamma Mia! Extrabbaganz </strong></strong>and <strong><strong>Pre</strong>tty Woman </strong>(Sat 23 May), followed by <strong>Sense and Sensibility</strong>&nbsp;(Sun 24 May.) Regency romance and ABBA anthems? Quite the combo.</p>

<p>For cinema with sea views, head to&nbsp;Sideshore&nbsp;for its dreamy&nbsp;<em>Sunset Cinema</em>&nbsp;series. This beachside screening of&nbsp;<em>Finding Nemo</em>&nbsp;comes complete with crashing waves, sunset skies and a complimentary drink from Heydays included in your ticket.</p>



<p>Bring a picnic blanket or camping chair and settle in from 6pm for a wholesome family evening by the coast. Snacks and cold drinks are available from the tuck shop, with proceeds supporting The Sideshore Fund and local community projects. Under 5s go free.</p>

<p>Strictly speaking, this one’s more than just cinema &#8211; but it’s too good to leave out.&nbsp;Landmark Theatre&nbsp;hosts the&nbsp;<em>Welcome Weekender</em>, a packed programme of outdoor entertainment including open-air cinema, immersive theatre, crafts, puppetry, graffiti art and interactive workshops.</p>



<p>Wristbands are just £10 for the whole weekend, making it one of the best-value family events of the summer. Just note: seating is first come, first served, so arrive early for the shows you really want to catch.</p>

<p>The sprawling&nbsp;Castle Hill Estate &#8211; a breathtaking 5,100-acre estate centred around a Palladian country house &#8211; provides the setting for a brilliant summer season of open-air theatre in partnership with The Plough Arts.</p>



<p>This year’s line-up includes&nbsp;<strong>The Return of the Native</strong> (Sun 5 July), <strong>Kaspar: Prince of Cats</strong>&nbsp;and <strong>Around the World in 80 Days</strong>&nbsp;(both Thurs 16 July), <strong>Much Ado About Nothing</strong>&nbsp;(Tues 28 July) <strong>The Wizard of Oz</strong>&nbsp;(Mon 3 Aug) <strong>Treasure Island</strong>&nbsp;(Sat 15 Aug) and <strong>The Sword in the Stone</strong>&nbsp;(Thurs 20 Aug). Bonus points for the BBQ available during the 16 July performances.</p>

<p>Twilight theatre doesn’t get much prettier than this. Set against the backdrop of&nbsp;Killerton House&nbsp;and its glorious parkland, the National Trust estate hosts a series of sunset performances throughout June and July.</p>



<p>Expect everything from comedy and live music to Shakespeare and family favourites, including&nbsp;<strong>King Arthur and the Holy Fail</strong> (Sat 6 June), <strong>Folk on the Lawn</strong> (Sat 20 June), <strong>Moulin Bouge</strong> (Fri 10 July), <strong>Pirates of Penzance</strong> (Fri 17 July), <strong>Othello</strong> (Tues 21 July), <strong>Pinocchio</strong> (Thur 30 July). Bring a blanket, pour a glass of something chilled and make an evening of it.</p>

<p>Shakespeare beneath the stars? Yes please. The award-winning gardens of&nbsp;Torre Abbey&nbsp;provide the atmospheric setting for&nbsp;<em>Romeo and Juliet</em>&nbsp;this summer, performed by the Dukes Theatre Company (12 – 13 June).</p>



<p>Pack a picnic blanket and settle among the abbey ruins and vibrant formal gardens for a magical evening of open-air theatre. Adult tickets are £22, and frankly, it’s hard to imagine a more romantic setting for the Bard’s most iconic love story.</p>

<p>Deep in the South Devon countryside, the spectacular 800-acre estate of&nbsp;Dartington Hall&nbsp;will host a special open-air performance of&nbsp;<em>Othello</em>&nbsp;this July by The Lord Chamberlain’s Men &#8211; the company with roots tracing back to Shakespeare’s own troupe.</p>



<p>Performed with an all-male cast in full Elizabethan costume, complete with period music and dance, this promises to be a wonderfully authentic theatrical experience, taking place within the grounds surrounding the medieval Great Hall (Wed 22 July). Do note: seating isn’t provided, so bring blankets or chairs along with all the classic British summer essentials — sunglasses, suncream and, naturally, a raincoat. Arriving early for dinner at the White Hart beforehand is highly recommended.</p>
