<p>Missing your summer music fests? <a href="https://www.liveatpowderham.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">TK Maxx presents Live at Powderham</a> has just popped a must-do date in the 2026 diary by announcing their first headliner&#8230; *drumroll* Lewis Capaldi! Having hosted Basement Jaxx and Duran Duran this summer (and promised to sort out the parking&#8230;), Live at Powderham will see the <em>Someone You Loved</em> singer bring his biggest ever solo show to the family-owned Kenton castle on Sunday 28 June. BUT &#8211; stop press! &#8211; <a href="https://www.ticketmaster.co.uk/tk-maxx-presents-live-at-powderham-tickets/artist/5509704" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">tickets</a> sold out within hours of going on pre-sale this Thursday. Fortunately, the Scottish singer-songwriter has already added a second night at Powderham on Sat June 27 June. On sale at <strong><a href="https://www.liveatpowderham.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">9am Friday 19 Sept</a></strong> so don&#8217;t dillydally! <p>A super-cool new therapy space has opened in a Totnes, rocking state of the art floatation rooms, a spacious yoga hall and treatment rooms offering complementary therapies. <a href="https://forgetherapycentre.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Forge Therapy Centre</a> was designed by Muddy-approved <a href="https://www.rjarchitects.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Roderick James Architects</a> and has three modern float rooms. Two are designed for single use (one with natural light and one for deeper relaxation) and a larger one designed for two, such as a client and practitioner, for couples or for disabled use. </p>



<p>If you&#8217;re yet to try out a floatation tank, essentially they&#8217;re soundproof and lightproof relaxation spaces where you can float in a bath of water held at body temperature. You float because the water is filled Epsom salts. Benefits of the hour-long sessions include slowing down the brain waves to mimic sleep, reducing blood pressure and heart rate, and taking pressure off of your muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons. One-hour sessions start at £55.</p>

<p>New restaurants on our radar include <a href="https://www.brothers-lounge.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Brothers Kitchen-Café-Lounge</a>, who also own Brothers in Okehampton, a former Muddy Finalist in the Casual Dining Category. The family-owned restaurant has opened in the former Arthur&#8217;s in Exeter&#8217;s Guildhall, serving up a crowd-pleasing daytime menu of everything from full English breakfasts and brunches to Devon burgers, takeaway steak sarnies and sweet treats. In other news, Thai food chain <a href="https://www.gigglingsquid.com/restaurant/exeter/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Giggling Squid</a> is opening in Exeter&#8217;s Cathedral Yard, date TBC.</p>

<p>Guess where the best cider in the world is made? Yep, Devon, of course. Sandford Orchards&#8217; <a href="https://74n5c4m7.r.eu-west-1.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fwww.sandfordorchards.co.uk%2Fproduct%2Fred-zero%2F/1/010201992eaf43eb-4e7981d7-fc45-4b3c-8f0e-d0dae2c70a71-000000/YW-1y4WF_72Xb2ICB7G6ntwu82A=442" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Red Zero</a> has just won Gold and been named Best Non-Alcoholic Cider at the World Cider Awards less than a year after it was launched. It&#8217;s made using traditional cider methods &#8211; the same technology used for Guinness Zero &#8211; and it <em>really</em> does taste like the real thing. </p>

Muddy readers crowned <a href="https://www.barbuoy.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bar Buoy</a> best Local Food &amp; Drink Producer in the Muddy Awards 2024. News has clearly spread further afield as their readymade cocktails have just scooped Drink Brand of the Year at the Food Lifestyle Awards 2025. Congrats to owners Tim and Ria &#8211; Passion Fruit Martinis all round!</p>

<p><a href="https://www.levinperdu.co.uk/event" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Le Vin Perdu</a> in Ashburton have pivoted to being an event-only, pop-up space with regular guest chef nights. Following on from September&#8217;s Keralan Feast and Cider &amp; Oyster Festival is an evening with celeb chef <a href="https://www.levinperdu.co.uk/event" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mark Hix</a> who is bringing a foraged taste of the Jurassic Coast to the brasserie on 30 October.</p>

<p>Over in Dartmouth, <a href="https://royalcastle.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Royal Castle</a>, which has been closed for a multi-million restoration and refurb since January, has been teasing the hotel&#8217;s imminent re-opening. Exciting new features for the Grade II listed hotel and restaurant include a sympathetic refurb of the period features, plus new private dining spaces, an informal lounge, a state of the art kitchen to improve service times, and an overhaul to their 24 boutique rooms. The suspense is killing! More to come when it opens.</p>

<p>One the family front, we have two new openings and a sad closure.</p>



<p>Reading time just got cooler with the launch of Libraries Unlimited&#8217;s new Exeter children’s&nbsp;space, <a href="https://discover.librariesunlimited.org.uk/-/exeter-library">The Clore Children&#8217;s&nbsp;Library.</a> Featuring a brand-new&nbsp;sensory&nbsp;area, a floating mezzanine and activities for older children, as well as a lift, it&#8217;s designed to be welcoming and accessible, with the aim of supporting children with ADHD, autism, and&nbsp;sensory&nbsp;processing disorders. We love that Libraries Unlimited consulted secondary school children to inform the planning too.</p>

<p>EXCAPE, Exmouth&#8217;s Muddy (and Jeremy Vine)-approved escape rooms has just launched an enigmatic new game, <a href="https://etoevents.co.uk/product/house-of-clues/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">House of Clues</a>. The new hour-long game is suitable for 2-6 players, promises to bring the classic boardgames Cluedo to life &#8211; and is getting rave reviews from escape room fans. </p>



<p>Another Devon mystery to solve &#8211; but not such a happy one. Why-oh-why-oh-why has <a href="https://www.facebook.com/beartowndevon" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bear Town</a> shut up shop? Yep, in a blow to exhausted parents and their under-fives everywhere, it&#8217;s a sad good-bye to the hugely popular children&#8217;s role play centre in Cullompton. </p>
