<p>Sitting pretty on Bow Creek,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.the-maltsters.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Malsters Arms</a>&nbsp;in Tuckenhay is navigable around 2 and a half hours either side of high tide. There&#8217;s a rising pontoon for your dinghy along with mooring piles, and showers should you need to freshen up before dining. You can also dry out overnight for a £5 donation to the RNLI. This classic pub with rooms is also under new ownership by Erin and Matt, the owners of Muddy Awards&#8217; Best Destination Pub 2024, The Rising Sun. In a nod to the pub&#8217;s TV associations (the pub was formerly owned by flamboyant TV chef Keith Floyd), the pair have brought in Executive Chef Anton Piotrowksi of&nbsp;<em>Masterchef: The Professionals</em>&nbsp;fame to create the menu. <p>At high tide The&nbsp;Millbrook&nbsp;Inn is just a short cruise up the South Pool creek from Salcombe or Kingsbridge. Here gets rave reviews for its farm-to-table menu, stylish updated pub decor and regular barbecues on the parasol-covered terrace. Its Sunday roast is listed in the Good Food Guide&#8217;s Top 50 Roasts in Britain, and Elly Wentworth (formerly of Dartmouth&#8217;s recently closed Angel) is to be executive chef of here and the family-owned Fowlescombe Farm from July.</p>

<p>Aka The Pink Pub, the FBI has direct boat access from the River Dart with a quay to moor on and nearby mooring buoys. It&#8217;s a classic place for a pint by the river, with options on a trip to the Anchorstone Café right next door, a wander around the beautiful Dittisham village or pop over to Agatha Christie&#8217;s former holiday home, Greenway, preserved in all its 1930s splendour by the National Trust, on the opposite side. They helpfully have the tide times on their website but it&#8217;s always navigable regardless of the highs and lows.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-turf-powderham"><a href="https://the-turf.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Turf</a>, Powderham </h2>

<p>Like the Double Locks closer to Exeter, The Turf is favourite with thirsty paddle-boarders looking for something chilled to sup by the canal. There&#8217;s no road access, so it&#8217;s either that, or walking or cycling along the towpath from Powderham Church. Eat inside or pitch up a picnic table right by the estuary for an outdoor barbecue in their family-friendly beer garden. Not coming by boat? Time it right and you catch the little ferry for a wander around Topsham. Since the new owners have taken it on, you can also stay in one of five boutique (TV-free) rooms.</p>

<p>Known for its cascading waterside terrace with far-reaching views over Lyme Bay, this Peter de Savary hotel and spa is easily navigable from Torquay and the River Exe and Teign Estuary. Tuck into a seafood dinner, a glass of fizz and enjoy the view which might include Sammy the Seal, if you&#8217;re lucky. Stay the night, or book in for the sea-facing spa, with its jacuzzi pool, sauna and steam room, and two treatment rooms for indulgent Temple Spa pampering. Fun fact: Winston Churchill once had his local-caught lobster sent up to London from here.</p>

<p>Under new ownership since November &#8217;24 by Joss and Lottie, this creekside Youngs&#8217; pub off the River Yealm has oodles of character with a large outdoor terrace and Glasshouse perfect for a waterside spritz. There are deep moorings on the river, then hop over on the tender and walk the plank to the pub. When the tide is we low, we recommend taking the circular walk around the two villages of Noss and Newton Ferrers for a gander at how the other half live!</p>

<p>Not strictly a pub, but they do serve a great gin&#8230; Based right by the water on Island Street (home to a funky mix of boat-builders, distillers and eateries including the new Salcombe Brewery Tap Room) Salcombe Distilling Co. is one of the few distilleries in the world that is navigable by boat. You can take a class at the Gin School, or head to the Tap Room for a tipple Tuesday though Saturday 11am-8pm. Go Friday if you like your local award-winning gin with live music.</p>
