<p>Feeling rebellious? Bored of pretty sea and landscapes? You&#8217;re not the only one. Self-taught artist, GP, lecturer and Topsham local, Claire le Day, has brought together her first exhibition at Kaleder Studios, not usually open to the public. Go for portraits, abstracts, still lifes, urban landscapes and sculptures from 15 local artists, from emerging to award-winners, whose works all resist the familiar pull of the seascape. There&#8217;ll be a chance to chat and purchase direct from many of the artists over the weekend. Alongside original pieces, you can also buy cards and prints, with several original works also being surprisingly accessible for smaller budgets. <em>Free.</em></p>

<p>Don your leopard skin and platforms – The Box Museum &amp; Gallery’s landmark exhibition of Beryl Cook artworks opens this month, celebrating 100 years since the Plymouth artist’s birth. Over 80 works are on display, mostly from private collections, alongside a new Box acquisition called <em>Bingo</em>. Loved for her body-positive figures and ahead-of-her time focus on everyday life – including the local LGBTQ+ community – the exhibition has already generated heaps of national coverage, so get booking. <p>The city museum&#8217;s first exhibition devoted to one of Britain’s best known contemporary artists<strong>.</strong> From textiles and pots to etchings and woodcuts, it promises to explore a sense of self through a range of media and storytelling techniques across universally human topics, from identity and gender to sexuality and politics. Apparently, it’s unique to RAMM and includes works never before seen in the region. <em>£6-8, under 19s free</em></p>

<p>Showcasing the talent and imagination of the local youth, this popular annual exhibition at The Burton fills the gallery with hundreds of works submitted by schools in Torridge and neighbouring boroughs. You can also catch <em>Hubert Coop and Friends: A Legacy of Art and Influence</em> which brings rarely seen pieces from The Burton’s collection onto display. Through a curated selection of 75 artworks for 75-years, this exhibition explores the rich history of The Burton and the development of the permanent collection from its initial gift to the borough of Bideford. <em>Free.</em></p>

<p>Water is at the heart of so many modern issues, from water pollution to shrinking lakes and floods. This new sensory exhibition is a chance to reflect on the value of water in our landscapes, taking watery places as its inspiration, including familiar local places such as Countess Wear and the Otterhead Lakes in the beautiful Blackdown Hills. Go on Sat 17 Jan to join a free daytime drop-in Family Printing Workshop, and from 5.15pm a Performance and Artist Talk with live musical performance by the artists, followed by an artist talk and Q&amp;A led by Tim Youngs from the Blackdown Hills National Landscape. <em>Free, limited to 20 places.
