Pass me a fan, I&#8217;m all aflutter. The most exciting thing to happen in Exeter for aeons has just opened! Yep, after a multi-million-pound major restoration project, <a href="https://www.ihg.com/hotelindigo/hotels/gb/en/exeter/extgo/hoteldetail" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hotel Indigo</a>, part of IHG Hotels and Resorts portfolio, has finally whipped back its doors and&#8230; we LIKE what we see. A lot.

Located in the former House of Fraser and long a boarded-up blot on Exeter&#8217;s High Street, Hotel Indigo&#8217;s steps (opposite Lorna Ruby) take you up to a gorgeous copper and blue bar, with a reception and plush velvet seating to the right (and a cool ceiling).

To the left is Colson&#8217;s Restaurant where new head chef, Charlotte Vincent, formerly of The Five Bells in Clyst Hydon and Great British Menu fame, will be doing her fabulous British-with-a-Scandi twist thing, and offering special Chef&#8217;s Table nights at the open kitchen.

Downstairs there&#8217;s The Dugout, a cool sports bar with high stool type seating and a screen for keeping an eye on the Exeter Chiefs.

Next door, is a shiny new and extremely pretty spa with four treatment rooms, two hydro-pools and lovely Elemis smellies.

For now only 40 of the 104 bedrooms are open, so we have to wait till Spring to check out the penthouse suites which will have fabulous views over the Cathedral and the Beckett&#8217;s Cocktail &amp; Champagne rooftop bar but what I have seen so far is gorgeous.

The bedrooms are themed into three styles, including &#8216;Cathedral&#8217; which some of rooms look out onto, &#8216;The House the Moved&#8217; (Exeter&#8217;s house which was famously moved on a lorry in the 1960s to make way for a road) and &#8216;Colson&#8217;s&#8217;, the original 19th century department store which was here before House of Fraser.

They each have a distinctive look with evocative decor and artwork, including vintage Bakelite-style phones, giant velvet headboards and even original shop fittings.

In places, you can still feel the ghost of the 19th century department store in the shiny parquet floors and stair railings, as well as a sort of Silk Route vibe which for me evokes the wonder of shopping when finding products from all over the globe under one roof was still new and exciting.
