Overlooking the Blue Flag winning Westward Ho! But before you sink your feet into the sand, plunge into eight super-plush bedrooms with tasteful coastal décor (no jaunty stripes here), large double beds, and en-suites – plus freestanding roll-top baths in a few of the bedrooms (race you to it!) which look out onto the epic Devon landscape. Better yet, step out to the terrace for a dip in the hot tub and front-row sea sighting.

Speaking of vistas; the dining room is an elegant hosting space with reams of natural light and sweeping views of the beach from its mahoosive windows. You and your guests can have a glam sit-down dinner party, then spill into the lounge, with its cosy Chesterfield-style seating. No need to faff about organising party games as you’ll have an easy-to-connect smart TV, plus a stock of family board games and puzzles. If the weather’s playing ball, you can feast al-fresco in the outside kitchen with a handy pizza oven – or ditch the pots and pans altogether and let Culloden arrange a private chef to come and cater for you (now you’re speaking my language).

Being within walking distance of a beach isn’t all this neck of the woods has to offer; take a gander at the Royal North Devon Golf Club (5-minute drive), which is famously the oldest golf course in the UK. Kids will love the local Pebble Ridge Go Kart and mini-golf course plus the numerous fish and chip and scone choices – well, this is the West Country.
