<p>Ah, the perennial lure of a #dreamkitchen but <em>argh</em>, the price. Only now I think I&#8217;ve found the solution, let&#8217;s call it kitchen cakeism: a new-look kitchen without the scary price-tag. </p>



<p>James Hewson at <a href="https://www.kitchenspraying.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kitchen Edit</a> has over 10 years in the kitchen biz, and is an expert in respraying old units to make them look like they&#8217;re straight out of the showroom. And he and his team are so good at it they&#8217;ve won an award for their work. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-james-this-sounds-ace-does-it-work-on-any-kitchen-anything-you-can-t-do">James, this sounds ace! Does it work on any kitchen? Anything you can&#8217;t do?</h2>



<p>Yep, you can respray pretty much anything from laminate, to wrap and timber. We can also sort out badly painted jobs too. If we can&#8217;t spray, for example, old melamine, we can replace the doors for you instead. With worktops, instead of spraying we use vinyl wrap on existing surfaces. It looks great and comes in really realistic finishes, including marble and wood. Very cool.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Presumably it&#8217;s a special paint?</h2>



<p>It&#8217;s a specialist industrial paint from Italy, available in chip-resistant eggshell, satin and gloss. You can&#8217;t just go out and buy it. It&#8217;s super-durable with a two-year guarantee &#8211; we&#8217;ve seen it last brilliantly in everything from farmhouse kitchens to modern apartments but expect it to last up to 10 years depending on wear and tear.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What look is everyone going for now?</h2>

<p>Green in everything from pale to rich shades, it&#8217;s really fashionable. Grey is still hanging in there, plus lots of dark blue. Otherwise it&#8217;s classic neutrals and safe shades, although we did have a pink one recently.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What, like Barbie pink? </h2>



<p>It was a soft pale pink and it worked really well because it toned in with the pink veining in the granite worktops and tiles. There&#8217;s a real trend for 70s greens and pinks at the moment. Hang on to your avocado bathroom suite!</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How long does it take? </h2>



<p>First, you send us photos online to get a quote, then once we&#8217;ve agreed the price, I come out for a site visit with examples of doors and paint colours and give advice. The job itself is a maximum three days on site and the kitchen is useable by the end of the day of the respray. </p>



<p>Day one we take away the doors and emptied drawers, then there&#8217;s a 10-day gap while we spray them at our workshop, when you can see the contents of your cupboards. Day 2 the other James comes to tape up and there&#8217;s one night where everything is masked and ready for the respray, when you&#8217;ll have to get a takeaway. Then day 3 is the respray and it&#8217;s dry by the evening.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">C&#8217;mon, there must be <em>some</em> mess?</h2>



<p>Not really. You don&#8217;t even need to empty your cupboards &#8211; just the drawers. We use a dustless extraction system for sanding, everything is meticulously masked and the spraying is low pressure so it doesn&#8217;t get everywhere. Plus, the work&#8217;s completed in a few days rather than weeks of disruption and there&#8217;s a huge carbon offset with virtually nothing to landfill.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What about pets?</h2>



<p>Er, we don&#8217;t spray pets! Ha, sorry, yes &#8211; you&#8217;d need to keep them out the way while the work&#8217;s going on.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Who does the work?</h2>



<p>We&#8217;re a team of four: myself, my partner in life and business, Rachael (top row) our Workshop Manager who sprays and quality-checks, and James who&#8217;s mostly on the road and on site and Nadia who&#8217;s in charge of all workshop preparation and organisation.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">And the damage?</h2>



<p>It&#8217;s roughly 70-80% less than the cost of a brand-new kitchen in other words around a quarter of the price. Depending on the size of your kitchen, a full respray service, with front and back of all doors and drawers, on-site parts fully sprayed, the leading edge of cupboards resurfaced in matching colour and new handles fitted will come to between £1000-£4000.
