Property flirt! A holiday home hottie
Fancy a snoop around a big house, a very big house in the country? Here's a handsome Georgian hunk we think you'll fancy the locks off - and you can book it for a staycay!
A Georgian residence near the North Devon coast, you say? With period features brought bang up to date with cool, modern art and elegant spaces to scoff and quaff. And you can book it for a staycay to sleep 10? Sounds like our cup of Darjeeling!
Get a load of Newton Cross House, a five-bedroom semi-detached period property set in the rural idyll of Newton Tracey. It’s been tastefully restored by the owners and now let out as a holiday home by Luxury Coastal, who specialise in holiday rentals close to the sea.
Let’s have a poke around while no-one’s looking, shall we?
Hello, huge hallway! Complete with rollmop radiator, original sash windows, solid wood flooring and a comfy reading corner. Perfect for when you need to escape the family and catch up on some Rightmove scrolling (a stay here will give you itchy feet, for sure.)
The hall leads into a grand sitting room with a welcoming wood-burning stove to keep you toasty, and there’s oodles of room on those snuggly sofas to seat everyone for a competitive game of Monopoly. (And check out that whopping 65in Smart TV.)
Park your derriere at the lovely shiny island while we pour you a snifter – or something from the coffee machine? – while we show you around the contemporary open-plan kitchen, with plenty to keep your inner-Nigella happy, including a fan-assisted oven and induction hob, dishwasher and microwave.
Do a 180 and here’s the view from the hob, a cosy snug complete with telly. So, you can park the littlies in front of the electronic babysitter and still be on hand to step in when bickering over the remote control boils over.
From here you can step straight into the classy dining room, with smoky-grey walls and comfortable chairs at a rustic wooden table seating up to ten. (Loving that leafy gold (or is it gold leaf?) lamp in the corner).
You get to the bedrooms from this arty inner hall, via the restored original staircase, ideal for swishing down in a fab frock.
Is the master bedroom large enough for you, m’lady? Here we have opulent chandeliers (no swinging, now), a super kingsize bed for long lie-ins, a Smart TV and a set of World War 2 binoculars for taking in the stunning view of North Devon countryside (or possibly spying on the neighbours).
Across the landing is the master bathroom – just look at the space! A claw foot bath for soaking, His and Her sinks, and a massive walk-in shower. That’ll do nicely, thank you – and if I’m not out in two hours bring me some fresh tealights (and a bottle of fizz).
There are two further bedrooms on the first floor, all sumptuous and made for relaxing, then on the next floor two more in the eaves sharing an additional shower room.
And when you’re bored of lolling under the duvet, come out and see the gorgeous garden. Secluded and leafy, pooch-friendly (you can bring two) with comfortable loungers and… what’s this?
Yay! A bubbling hot tub. I can just see you enjoying yourself in there, with a glass of bubbles, day-dreaming about how soon you book your next stay. Mind if join you? Now, where’s that bubbler button…
