<p>We&#8217;ve always been fans of <a href="https://www.thebucketandspade.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Bucket &amp; Spade&#8217;s</a> winning combination of sea views, great coffee and seriously good brunches. And now there&#8217;s another reason to make the trip to Shaldon. The popular coastal café has expanded its offering with the launch of Serenity Shaldon, a new wellness space that transforms a visit into a full-blown spa-and-brunch day out.</p>



<p>Perched above the South Devon coastline at Coast View Holiday Park, the new spa offers everything from massages and beauty treatments to access to the indoor pool, sauna and steam room. Consider our next self-care day officially sorted.</p>

<p>A massage is lovely. A massage followed by a swim, sauna and brunch with a sea view? That&#8217;s more our kind of self-care. <a href="https://www.serenityshaldon.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Serenity Shaldon</a>&#8216;s treatment menu includes everything from deep tissue and hot stone massages to beauty treatments, manicures and pedicures, but the real appeal is the chance to turn your appointment into a proper escape. Add on access to the indoor heated pool, sauna, steam room and gym (£18), and suddenly a one-hour treatment becomes an entire morning &#8211; or afternoon &#8211; of blissful switching off.</p>

<p>Serenity Shaldon feels like a hidden retreat, tucked away from the bustle of The Bucket &amp; Spade. With just two treatment rooms, it&#8217;s intimate rather than sprawling, and the atmosphere is calm, peaceful and designed for switching off.</p>



<p>To get a proper feel for the experience, I booked in for a treatment myself (all in the name of research, naturally). My therapist Abbie was warm, professional and wonderfully chatty, and I loved hearing her story and how she came to be running the spa.</p>

<p>I opted for a pedicure, giving the  trotters some much-needed TLC and the treatment was exactly what you want from a spa experience: relaxing, unhurried and indulgent. There was a lovely pot of tea to sip during the treatment and, perhaps best of all, a gloriously soothing foot massage to finish. </p>

<p>What makes Serenity Shaldon particularly appealing is its flexibility. You can pop in for a treatment, add access to the leisure facilities, meet friends for brunch beforehand, or turn it into a full day of swimming, steaming, spa-ing and soaking up those sea views. What&#8217;s not to love. </p>

<p>Already a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike, The Bucket &amp; Spade has built a reputation for its laid-back atmosphere, locally sourced ingredients and spectacular panoramic views across the bay. Whether you&#8217;re popping in for breakfast before a treatment, lingering over lunch with friends or settling in for dinner from the summer menu, the setting is hard to beat.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s also one of my favourite spots to escape with my laptop. The café runs a <a href="https://www.thebucketandspade.com/uploads/b/210de620-d1ce-11f0-8b22-27021139fbb5/BS-Work-Club-A4-Poster_MjY5MD.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Work Club</a> deal for just £10 a day including unlimited tea and coffee, making it an ideal place to catch up on emails or tackle a to-do list while gazing out to sea. Not exactly a hardship. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe">THE VIBE </h2>

<p>Gorgeous sea views, relaxed and genuinely welcoming, with staff chatting to customers like old friends and seeming to know half the room by name. It&#8217;s always a good sign when you can instantly tell a place has its regulars.</p>



<p>And then there were the dogs. From sleepy pups tucked under tables to walkers stopping in after a coastal stomp, the four-legged clientele only added to the friendly, community feel. It&#8217;s the kind of place where you arrive for brunch and find yourself lingering over a second coffee simply because you&#8217;re in no rush to leave.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-muddy-verdict">THE MUDDY VERDICT </h2>

<p>A treatment, swim, breakfast with a sea view and stroll around Shaldon afterwards? That&#8217;s our idea of the perfect Devon day out. Serenity Shaldon adds a welcome wellness element to an already popular destination, while The Bucket &amp; Spade remains one of the loveliest spots on the South Devon coast to linger over coffee, brunch or a working lunch.</p>



<p><strong>Good for</strong>: Spa-and-brunch dates, solo self-care days, catching up with friends, digital nomads seeking a sea-view workspace, and anyone who likes their wellness with a side of excellent coffee and coastal views.</p>



<p><strong>Not for</strong>: Those looking for a large-scale luxury spa resort with extensive thermal facilities. Serenity Shaldon is intimate and boutique, which is very much part of its charm.</p>



<p><strong>The damage</strong>: A classic pedicure is £45. Day passes for the leisure facilities, including the indoor heated pool, sauna, steam room and gym, cost £18. </p>
