<p>If you’ve clocked that&nbsp;<em>everyone</em>&nbsp;from&nbsp;David Beckham&nbsp;to&nbsp;Andy Murray&nbsp;has been spotted with a Padel racket lately, you’re not imagining it. Padel is officially the UK’s fastest-growing sport – sociable, slightly addictive and far kinder on the joints than a five-set tennis slog.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-city-padel-exeter-nbsp"><a href="https://www.citypadelexeter.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">City Padel</a>, Exeter&nbsp;</h2>



<p>Six indoor panoramic courts mean the Devon drizzle can do its worst. Tucked just outside Exeter on Hill Barton Business Park (with blissfully easy free parking), this slick setup feels properly pro – think quality changing rooms, showers and a first-floor lounge where you can analyse your “epic” backhand over a flat white. Off-peak courts start from £25 per hour, and there’s a café, bar, plus free-to-play darts and pool for post-match bragging rights. Want to up your game? The coaching academy runs courses for all abilities. Even better: two new centres are opening in Taunton and Plymouth this spring. Watch this space.</p>

<p>A stone’s throw from the beach and right by the Riviera International Centre, this is padel with a sea breeze. There are four state-of-the-art outdoor courts (three panoramic, one crystal), plus parking and accessible facilities. It’s pay-as-you-play, with doubles from £8–£12 off peak. No racket? Hire one for £2 and grab a tube of balls for £7. Coaching and mix-in sessions make it easy to sharpen your skills – and their handy WhatsApp group helps you find fellow players locally. Community sport, but make it chic.</p>

<p>Based at Marjon Sport &amp; Health with free on-site parking, this sister site to Torbay offers four outdoor courts – and boasts the UK’s first pay-and-play singles court (hello, main character energy). Singles start from £8, doubles from £12, with racket hire available daily. Intermediate mix-ins run on Wednesday evenings, and during Wimbledon they even pop up a court in Plymouth city centre for two weeks. Yes, really.</p>

<p>Set in rolling countryside near Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton, Woodbury Park pairs padel with spa days, golf and hotel stays. Members can use the two outdoor courts as part of their health club membership, while non-members can book for £28 per hour – or £7 each if playing with a member. It’s the kind of place where you can justify a match because, well, you’re already here for wellness.</p>

<p>One of Devon’s early adopters, Torquay Tennis Club on Belgrave Road offers outdoor padel courts open daily. Members pay £20 per hour; non-members £30. Racket hire is just £1 (same for three balls – bargain). New to the sport? Social sessions run Tuesdays (beginners) and Saturdays (intermediates) for £8. Friendly, affordable and a brilliant way to dip your toe in without feeling like you’ve accidentally entered the World Championships.</p>

<p>Fancy turning padel into a mini-break? These sister resorts near Okehampton offer an ‘Introduction to Padel’ two-night coaching break and were the first UK hotel with six indoor Padel courts. Non-residents can book courts for £20 per hour (with a £10 equipment deposit). Sporty staycation, sorted.</p>

<p>Not sold on padel? Pickleball is having its own moment. A mash-up of tennis, badminton and table tennis, it’s low-impact, wildly sociable and refreshingly easy to learn. Played on a badminton-sized court with a lowered net and a perforated ‘waffle’ ball, it’s perfect if you fancy something competitive without the full Wimbledon knees.</p>

<p>This charity-run, family-focused centre in Bideford offers four pickleball courts on Mondays, Thursdays and weekends. Non-members pay £11, with paddles and balls available to hire for £1 each. Best bit? Your first session is free if you’re new. We do love a freebie.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-south-devon-tennis-centre-ivybridge-nbsp"><a href="https://southdevontenniscentre.co.uk/?page_id=2372" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">South Devon Tennis Centre</a><strong>, </strong>Ivybridge<strong>&nbsp;</strong></h2>



<p>Home to one of the best indoor facilities in the country, this Ivybridge centre has four courts under a fully insulated roof (translation: no goosebumps mid-rally). Pickleball is pay-and-play at £12.46 per hour, paddles provided. Newbies can join free taster sessions (Weds 6pm–7pm) or book a mix-in session on Mon, Tue or Thu from £4.50 per person – no partner needed.</p>
