<p>Follow in the footsteps of the Victorians along the old railway line from Newton Abbot to Moretonhampstead &#8211; a mainly traffic free, route linking Bovey Tracey and Moretonhampstead. Cut it short by starting at National Trust Parke Estate or the picture-postcard village of Lustleigh with its sheep-filled orchard (or heck, just drive straight there&#8217;d have a wander around lovely Mortonhampstead). Your reward is a glass and a pizza slice in an 18th century posting inn, <a href="https://www.whitehartdartmoor.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The White Hart</a>, now under new ownership. </p>

<p>A short, flat and dog-friendly and buggy-friendly walk in the woods with the lure of a panoramic view out over the Exe estuary and Exmouth in the distance, and an excellent coffee and cake from <a href="https://www.facebook.com/TeignBean/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Teign Bean </a>based in the car park. Check out the 18th-century stone Obelisk just to the right of the viewing point, built as a landmark for ships sailing up the estuary. Or if it&#8217;s just Teignmouth Bean&#8217;s great coffee you&#8217;re after, head straight to Dawlish Warren where they have another pitstop, then head out for a walk on the sands.</p>

<p>A great walk with kids in tow, with huge ancient oaks to see and the Yarner Wood Reserve Base for leaflets about the various trails. There are cool sculptures, plenty of benches and loos too. Afterwards, head over to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ullacombefarm.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ullacombe Farm Shop</a>&nbsp;for a festive cream too (book first) or stop off at the Muddy-approved and multi-award winning&nbsp;<a href="https://homefarmcafe.co.uk/christmas-at-home-farm-cafe/?fbclid=IwAR0-g-4fE8eI_R9vjyqdCEzUTnTWVQQn6W9SFIY2U9jcmTNTJ99AnIb71MI" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Home Farm Cafe</a>, open for drinks and homemade cakes.</p>

<p>A walk round the wild side of the Yealm estuary, with options for rock-sure to clamber down to beautiful beaches and seal-spot en route, from Gara Point to Noss Mayo. If you fancy a detour, stay on the road to Noss for a bevy overlooking the water at&nbsp;<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.nossmayo.com/" target="_blank">The Ship Inn</a>.</p>

<p>Steer clear of the holiday crowds (at Haytor especially) and head to this lesser known Tor in the pretty village of Belstone. Legend has it the nine rocks were created when nine maidens were turned to stone for dancing on a Sunday. No such superpowers for you, though there is the option of an old stocks the kids in when you can’t take any more of their squabbling. Pop in for a pint at the award-winning <a href="https://thetorsinn.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tors Inn</a> at Belstone, a proper Devon pub or the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/theoldschooltearoombelstone" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Old School Tearoom</a> (above).</p>

<p>Park up in Budleigh and head over to the beach with its huge pebbles and instantly recognisable line of pine trees on the headland. From here take the hilly coast path to Ladram Bay, or just wander the beach and head indoors for a bite at the new Rockfish. </p>

<p>A fun walk that takes in a boat ride, disused train tracks and historic houses in the shape of Agatha Christie’s former holiday home at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/greenway" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Greenway</a>. Begin in Dartmouth, then take the short lower ferry ride across the River Dart to Kingswear. Grab a bevvy in&nbsp;<a href="https://steampacketinnkingswear.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Steam Packet Inn</a>&nbsp;to get you going, walk parallel to the steam train tracks along the Dart Valley Way and river all the way to Greenway, then take the little boat from Greenway to Dittisham and end up in&nbsp;<a href="http://www.ferryboatinndittisham.pub/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Ferry Boat Inn</a>. <p>A steep zigzag walk that takes you from the Victorian Quay via a long wooded valley to The Torrs, also known as the The Seven Hills. It’ll get your heart a-pumping but the ace views out over the Bristol Channel are worth it. For vittles, head to <a href="https://www.facebook.com/staccbakes/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stacc </a>on The Promenade, and who always get a lotta local love for their in-house baked cake and cookies, excellent coffee and cocktails, or <a href="https://thelimekilncafe.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Lime Kiln</a> (above) with its terrace overlooking the harbour.</p>

<p>Start at the marina and walk the length of the sandy seafront, alternatively stomp up the Zigzag to Orcombe Point for a seagull’s eye view, where the <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/exmouth/features/orcombe-point" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Geoneedle</a> marks the most westerly point of the Jurassic Coast. Only 96 miles to the other end if you want to keep going. Grab a coffee or boozy hot chocolate from <a href="https://www.facebook.com/hangtimecafe/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hangtime</a>, the wooden takeaway hut slap bang in the middle of the beachfront. </p>
