<p>Darts Farm sits on the 26-km trail that circumnavigates both sides the River Exe, taking you from the coastal town Exmouth via Exeter to the nature reserve at Dawlish Warren. The award-winning farm shop folk have long hired out handmade British classic Pashleys, along with kids&#8217; bikes, tandems and tagalongs for kids. New for 2024, they have added a range of e-bikes to make pedalling along the flat, surfaced waterside trail even easier. E-bikes cost £35 half-day to £50 full day/£24/£18 Pashley. All bike hire includes a helmet &amp; lock. Grab a bite from one of their many takeaways and cafe, or pop a Darts Farm picnic in your basket to enjoy at the beach.</p>

<p>The Village Farm Café is a brand-new place for locals to grab a reasonably priced cuppa, and a pitstop for the area’s many walkers and cyclists. You can hire a modern Volt Plus e-bike from <a href="https://bearland.co.uk/">Bearland Bikes</a> and head out to stunning natural locations like Start Point, South Pool (home to the fab Millbrook Inn), Frogmore and local secret beaches. Some are quite steep to get to, making an e-bike is a total boon. Owner John can also advise on local routes from personal knowledge. Prices from £40 per day.</p>

Close by you have loads of choice for coffee and cake, including the Boatyard Bakery next door and Ridge Café opposite. Choose from mountain bikes, hybrid city bikes, stylish basket bikes, electric bikes or tandems, plus kids&#8217; bikes, child seats, trailers and tagalongs. Because you can hire for as little time as an hour, recommended routes include the excellent local waterside pubs, The Double Locks and Turf Locks, all on the flat, as well as nearby Topsham and the Exe Estuary Trail.  </p>

<p>With its shredder-friendly woodland trails and family-friendly routes, the 3,500 acres of Haldon Forest has something for everyone, including green, blue and red level trails to explore by bike. And that&#8217;s not to mention the breathtaking scenery and views (or the excellent Teign Bean coffee over in the Obelisk car park). E-bikes are only allowed for the less adrenaline-fuelled trails, or hire a mountain bike if you want to pit yourself against the skills area or Ridge Trail. <p>Ask anyone for a traffic-free, family friendly bike ride with a good café, and the 180-mile Tarka Trail is bound to come up. Bike hire is based at Fremington Quay, from a quaint ivy-covered shed that until the middle of last century served as a coal and storage yard for the steam railway. E-bike hire starts from £17, plus you can rent out mountain bikes, hybrids, tandems, adult three wheelers, plus trailers for kids and dogs. They also have a branch on the North Devon coast in Hartland, which handily includes delivery, collection and luggage transfer. Conveniently next door is Fremington Quay Café, where you can tuck into a homemade breakfast, lunch, cream teas and light bites, and their very popular Aero cake.</p>

<p>Also located on the Tarka Trail, but by the coast at Braunton, this bike hire is next to the popular Waterside Café, and has a fleet of nine Raleigh Motus Grand tours which have Bosch motors and a range of up to 80 miles. Prices start at £40 and can be extended from the day to a whole week, with no deposit required you use their online booking system. It&#8217;s run by two brothers, Dan and Cez, who are happy to advise on local routes and drop-ins too.</p>
