Seeking a deeper de-frazzle than just a few days at a bucolic retreat? Praktyka is your place. Described by Wallpaper as ‘the glamping spot all creatives should know‘, this North Devon eco stay has woven the ethos of slowing down and mindful practice into its DNA. It was founded in 2018 by Henry, a geographer with a background in social enterprise, and artist Ania, whose work has featured in The Times and The Guardian. After a period travelling, the pair upped sticks from London and landed in North Devon, and have blended the area’s wildness and beauty into their wellness-boosting hideaway.

Praktyka means practice in Polish (Ania’s native homeland). The word evokes the process of consciously unplugging and carving out time for quiet stillness and focused work. Practice isn’t something to dip in and out of, but to thread into the fabric of your life. As part of your stay, you’re invited to unlock this magic in a range of workshops led by Ania, including lost-wax jewellery making and cyanotype printing. They’re also rolling out an artist residency in 2025, along with their regular programme of photography, yoga and meditation, plus hiking, surfing and wild swimming at nearby Peppercoombe Beach.

Praktyka’s ethos extends to the unique accommodation which was designed by award-winning Camarthen firm, Rural Office for Architecture, who are known for their innovative, sustainable approach. For those wanting to connect with the Great Outdoors, there’s a giant dome sleeping up to four people, set in a Piet Oudolf-inspired perennial meadow, with a pagoda affording an outside dining area and kitchen; the home-from-home Barn sleeps up to 4 and was listed in The Times’  Top 10 Holiday Cottages in the UK; the Shaker-inspired Cabin sleeps 2 and is simply designed to inspire creativity and reflection.
