This unique thatched round-house is all pared-back simplicity, terracotta bricks, wooden floors, perfect for stamping your boutique-boho style all over it. Set among 3000 vines – which produced an award-winning Sauvignon in its first year – and awesome views over the Exe estuary, here you can say your vows under the thatch, then dine among the vines if you wed in harvest season.

It’s just nine miles out of Exeter, but so bucolic I’ve driven past hundreds of times without even knowing it’s there. Family-run by Joanna and Matt, Brickhouse Vineyard specialise in same-sex and intimate elopement weddings, incredibly good-value too, starting at £550 for a teeny-tiny ceremony if you’re making a quiet escape with just the two of you. But it can easily embrace 50 of your nearest and dearest, with a bar full of local tipples in the adjacent barn. And Joanna has curated an incredibly tasteful selection of local suppliers, should you need a bit of help with the planning.

If you’re a nature-girl, the sort who prefers beauty to come relaxed and undone, here’s your place, whether it’s a wedding, hen party, big birthday or you just fancy an excuse to grab some friends and dance the night away in authentic Bacchanalian style. And just saying, I’ve bagged it as the venue for our 2019 Muddy Stilettos Awards drinks, it’s that good.
