Boringdon Hall & Spa, Plymouth

Boringdon Hall is a very very special hotel, combining history and period features dating all the way back to the Domesday Book with a multi-award winning contemporary spa and a Michelin-star restaurant. Unique in Devon, this 16th century Manor House ticks all the boxes – a place that heaps treat upon treat. A place to decompress and feed body, soul and mind.
A trip to Boringdon is also a gastronomic event, thanks to Àclèaf (‘oak’ in Old English) – an intimate 4 AA-rosette restaurant with menus created by Head Chef Scott Paton. It has been awarded a MICHELIN Star for the past two years, and is tucked away in the minstrel’s gallery overlooking the magnificent Great Hall. Here’s also known for fabulous themed Afternoon Teas, a real treat for a special occasion, all open to residents and non-residents alike.
In complete contrast to the Elizabethan leadwork windows and wood-panelling, Boringdon’s Gaia Spa is light and airy, with a pool and a hydrotherapy pool which opens up to the outdoors, as well as a Finnish sauna, Crystal Salt steam room, a shower experience, and a Laconium herbal sauna with curved heated seats. You can steam, sauna and lounge, or head outdoors to lounge in the sun – all very luxe beach club.
Last autumn, they launched 14 stunning new luxury wellness room and suites and a relaxation room which are surely going to have spa lovers drooling. Conveniently located near Gaia Spa and upstairs eatery, The Spatisserie, walls throughout feature living moss to remove pesky toxins from the air and replace with clean, fresh oxygen, while each room and suite includes use of a GAIA Yoga mat, GAIA Skincare amenities, mindful literature, wellness care kits and robes.
Located on the outskirts of Plymouth, your stay also brings the options of city sight-seeing and walks on Dartmoor. But that’s only if you can drag yourself away from the rolltop baths, four-poster beds and luxurious lounging that Boringdon does so well. It’s the perfect weekender, with history, class, cocktails, plenty to do – or not.
