<p>Meet our new style crush, Astrid Zeegen-Holt, better known by her Insta followers as <a href="https://www.instagram.com/astridiwantyouinmylife/">@astridiwantyouinmylife</a>. The 58-year old blonde bombshell has racked up 424k followers for her daily styling tips, showing her getting dressed for the day, often from a standing start of bra and knickers in her kitchen. Her look is colourful, funky, daytime &#8211; big scarves, trainers and tank tops &#8211; all really wearable, whatever your age or size &#8211; even if you aren&#8217;t as lithe, bronzed and gorgeous as Astrid.</p>

<p>She moved from Surrey to Brixham on the South Devon coast around seven years ago, where she now lives with her husband Simon and her Patterdale terrier. Look out for Simon on her reels &#8211; he&#8217;s her ever-so slightly reluctant helper &#8211; a great side act.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-hi-astrid-how-did-you-become-an-influencer">Hi Astrid! How did you become an influencer?</h2>

<p>A friend suggested it. I was clueless about Instagram, but she said to me, &#8220;You really should get on there, you&#8217;d be great&#8221;. I&#8217;m quite easily influenced myself, so I thought, &#8220;Okay, I&#8217;m going to give this a go!&#8221; I came home and told my two daughters (Edie and Molly) who were all cringes and eye-rolls. But here I am, seven years later having posted every single day since then, apart from a couple of days when my dog died. I&#8217;ve taught myself everything, the admin, filming reels and editing &#8211; all of it.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-impressive-did-you-have-a-background-in-tech-or-fashion">Impressive! Did you have a background in tech &#8211; or fashion?</h2>



<p>No, neither. I went to art college, specialising in ceramics, but rather than gong into art, I worked in hospitality and ran a gastropub in Surrey for many years. When I look back to my childhood, my parents always used to complain that I was either changing outfits or looking in a mirror, so I was made for the job.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-how-do-you-know-so-much-about-putting-an-outfit-together">How do you know so much about putting an outfit together?</h2>



<p>I think it&#8217;s innate &#8211; I just loving doing it, and I have always liked to express my individuality through clothes and being a bit different. I&#8217;d cut things up and dye them &#8211; I was forever being dragged to the head&#8217;s office for adapting my school uniform. Wear what you look good in &#8211; I have skinny legs, so you&#8217;ll never see me in leggings. If you <em>feel</em> good in something, you <em>look</em> good.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-how-does-simon-feel-about-being-your-insta-wingman">How does Simon feel about being your Insta wingman?</h2>

<p>He was involved by accident really: one day I just said &#8216;Come here and be with me in this&#8217;, and you know, people really liked it. He doesn&#8217;t pretend to be enjoying it, and he&#8217;s never on his own, always my assistant &#8211; passing me clothes to dress up in, or throwing me my shoes &#8211; but brands have started sending him clothes now which will get him out of his shorts and t-shirt.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-tell-us-your-autumn-winter-24-wardrobe-must-haves">Tell us your autumn/winter &#8217;24 wardrobe must-haves?</h2>

<p>I&#8217;m not a stylist, so this is just what I like &#8211; but a long-sleeved sheer tee from <a href="https://www.cos.com/en_gbp/women/t-shirts/long-sleeve-t-shirts.html">Cos </a>comes in loads of colours and is brilliant for keeping you warm and it goes under everything &#8211; cardigans, tank tops, jumpers. A good pair of jeans that suit you (I love a barrel leg) because they&#8217;re great for day to night &#8211; depending on whether you wear with trainers or heels and a blazer. Blazers are good &#8211; maybe in burgundy &#8211; and definitely loafers. But if you don&#8217;t want to spend loads, then a good hat is great, especially for bad hair days. Just a beany (Zara do good slouchy ones) with a colourful scarf can transform your look.</p>

<p>Travel! I nearly crashed the car when I was offered an all-expenses Easyjet holiday to Rhodes &#8211; or rather Simon nearly crashed, because I was sitting next to him shrieking &#8216;ohmigod, ohmigod! We had a three-day holiday to a place of our choosing &#8211; we went to Rhodes &#8211; and everything was paid for, all the transfers, and amazing extras, including a floating breakfast, and fresh macarons delivered to our door. We&#8217;ve been to France, Italy and lots of lovely local AirBnBs locally. I love it.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-and-the-worst">And the worst?</h2>



<p>I was asked to promote period pants, but I&#8217;ve had a hysterectomy, so couldn&#8217;t do it anyway. I hate my varicose veins, and no-one asked me to talk about them, but people like me being honest so one day I just decided to go for it. People think influencers have to have perfect bodies, perfect skin, perfect hair&#8230; they like it when you show you&#8217;re not. Sharing having my veins done brought me the most DMs ever, also it went viral and gained me 6k followers in just a few days.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-s-your-idea-of-a-fab-night-out">What&#8217;s your idea of a fab night out?</h2>

<p>This is going to sound really boring, but I love going out to eat. I love food and finding new places. We&#8217;re lucky that we can just walk into Brixham for places like Rockfish where you can sit overlooking the fishing boats eating fresh fish, and <a href="https://www.alberobrixham.co.uk">Albero</a> for stone-baked pizza. The Sunday lunch at <a href="https://www.olivebrixham.co.uk">Olive</a> is amazing. </p>



<p>If we don&#8217;t mind driving, then we go to <a href="https://liveandletlivepub.com">The Live and Let Live </a>at Landscove. The pub doesn&#8217;t look special from the outside, but the Sunday lunch is delicious &#8211; really generous and <em>so</em> tasty.  </p>

<p>Recently I tried <a href="https://schoolhouse-devon.co.uk">The School House</a> at Mothecombe (above), which is like a shack on the beach (wrap up &#8211; I went underdressed!) but the chef used to work for a MICHELIN restaurant so it&#8217;s really good.</p>



<p>If we want a walk with a pub pitstop for Sunday lunch, then it&#8217;s <a href="https://dartmoorinn.com">The Dartmoor Inn</a> at Lydford.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-and-a-relaxing-night-in">And a relaxing night in?</h2>



<p>I feel like I don&#8217;t relax very often, but the only time I do is before bed with my laptop and headphones  &#8211; an hour without picking up my phone &#8211; when I watch rubbish TV. Simon is away this weekend, so I&#8217;m really looking forward to watching all the things he hates &#8211; <em>Emily in Paris</em>, <em>Married at First Sight</em> &#8211; we have very different ideas about what makes good TV.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s where I worked for a while &#8211; <a href="https://fifty5a.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fifty5a</a>, an indie clothes store (Muddy Award winning) in Totnes. The owner Malin does lovely Scandi brands which I really like.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-favourite-spot-for-a-morning-coffee">Favourite spot for a morning coffee?</h2>



<p>I don&#8217;t drink coffee but Simon tells me it&#8217;s<a href="https://www.portespresso.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Port Espresso</a> in Brixham. It&#8217;s dog-friendly and they do a good brunch. I&#8217;m a chai person &#8211; I usually take my own teabags.</p>

<p>I go to <a href="https://yokethesalon.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Yoke the Salon</a> in Plymouth. They&#8217;re lovely. I go to James because he&#8217;s good with short hair and Joe is good with colour. I&#8217;m forever changing my hair and he will tell me if my ideas are any good or not. I&#8217;m growing it into a Bixie (a cross between a bob and a pixie) and trying to grow out the blonde, as I have no idea what my natural colour is anymore. It&#8217;s driving me mad, but I&#8217;m persevering.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-and-your-beauty-treatments">And your beauty treatments?</h2>



<p>A lovely lady called called Anna at <a href="https://exthetics.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">EXTHETICSSOUTHWEST</a> in Exeter. She&#8217;s really friendly and gives me brilliant advice for my skin. I had a lots of pigmentation due to sun damage and she introduced me to Obagi Nu Derm, and it completely transformed my skin in the space of a year (<a href="https://exthetics.co.uk/skincare/">see the pics</a>). </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-are-up-to-for-the-rest-of-day-the-week-the-year">What are up to for the rest of day, the week, the year?</h2>



<p>I&#8217;m off to Totnes for some trousers which have been made to fit me, then I&#8217;m going to sit and watch rubbish TV. Simon&#8217;s away so I&#8217;m staying here with the dog (we never leave him alone for than three hours). It&#8217;s off to a cabin in Marldon next weekend, then roll on Thailand with my daughter in January!</p>
