<p>Look who&#8217;s popped in for a chat with Muddy. Yes, it&#8217;s Faye Winter, y&#8217;know off <em>Love Island</em>! Faye&#8217;s a native Devonian, and back in 2021 she traded her native Dartmoor for eight wild weeks in the Mallorcan sunshine. Our gorgeous gal made it all the way to the Final, and since then, she&#8217;s been seen everywhere from <em>Celebrity MasterChef</em> and red carpet events to brand endorsement deals. </p>

<p>Faye, who is an Ambassador for <a href="https://www.guidedogs.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Guide Dogs UK</a>, lives on Dartmoor with her golden retriever Bonnie and two Dartmoor yearlings who joined the family from the Chagford Drift sales last year. If you&#8217;re one of her 1M+ <a href="https://www.instagram.com/faye__winter/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Instagram </a>followers, you&#8217;ll have spotted she&#8217;s an outdoorsy gal who loves a walk with her pooch and a dog-friendly, post-stomp pitstop. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-haytor-dartmoor">Haytor, Dartmoor</h2>

<p>It’s a classic choice, but it’s classic for a reason. Haytor gives you those sweeping Dartmoor views, wild ponies, and that unbeatable sense of space.&nbsp;<br>My tip? Use Haytor as your anchor but drive five or ten minutes in any direction and you’ll find the most idyllic, peaceful spots and all the drama and beauty of Dartmoor without the crowds. You’ll still get that blustery moorland air and see plenty of wildlife, but just remember to leave no trace and respect those who call the moor home.</p>



<p><strong>Pawsome pitstop</strong>:&nbsp;<a href="https://www.rock-inn.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Rock Inn</a>&nbsp;is only a few minutes away and serves one of the best roasts in Devon. It’s the kind of pub that wraps you up in warmth and history the moment you walk in.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-parke-bovey-tracey">Parke, Bovey Tracey</h2>

<p>Dropping down off the moor into Parke always feels like stepping into another world. The winding trails through the trees follow the river, where the sound of the water and rustle of leaves create the most peaceful backdrop. It’s also has an easy, flat walk option, perfect for prams and bikes, if you’re feeling fit, you can follow the path all the way to Lustleigh.</p>



<p>I love it most in autumn, when the colours turn rich and golden and the paths are covered in crunchy leaves. But whatever the season, it’s a beautiful mix of calm and adventure and you’ll often find Bonnie knee-deep in the river.</p>



<p><strong>Pawsome pitstop</strong>:&nbsp;There’s a lovely café in Parke itself, but I usually find myself heading to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ullacombefarm.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ullacombe Farm</a>&nbsp;afterwards (and far more often than I’d like to admit). The staff are gorgeous, the cakes are&nbsp;next level, and it’s got a real sense of community. It’s not your standard farm shop and is full of character, with a proper Devon atmosphere, great food, and plenty to do for the whole family.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-exmouth-beach">Exmouth Beach</h2>

<p>Exmouth Beach will always be one of my favourite places to walk Bonnie. In the summer, dog access is limited, but if you time it right with the tides, you can still stroll around Orcombe Point and along to Sandy Bay Beach.&nbsp;In autumn and winter, it’s an absolute dream. The crowds disappear, and the beach belongs to the dogs again. There’s something so joyful about seeing them racing through the shallows, tails wagging and sand flying everywhere.</p>



<p><strong>Pawsome pitstop</strong>:&nbsp;After a long walk, I love heading to&nbsp;<a href="https://lympstonemanor.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lympstone Manor’s Pool House</a>&nbsp;for a light lunch or a glass of bubbles. The panoramic views across the estuary are stunning it’s one of those places where you can just sit, watch the water, and let the world slow down. Failing that Krispies on the beach or in the boot of the car with Bon is always a good idea!</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-woodbury-common">Woodbury Common</h2>

<p>Woodbury Common is all about space and freedom. There are endless trails that weave through heathland and forest, with views that stretch for miles on a clear day. Bonnie loves splashing through the puddles, and I love that sense of peace and openness you find out here.</p>



<p><strong>Pawsome pitstop</strong>:&nbsp;<a href="https://greendale.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Greendale Farm Shop</a>&nbsp;is my go-to. Their breakfasts are amazing, their goat’s cheese and beetroot salad is one of my regular orders, and their fishmonger is the best I’ve found in Devon. If you’re lucky enough to arrive when they’ve got monkfish, don’t think twice! And for a quick grab-and-go, their drive-through coffee hut is a lifesaver.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-haldon-forest">Haldon Forest</h2>

<p>Haldon has something for everyone from cycling trails to peaceful forest paths. My favourite area is around&nbsp;Mamhead, where you get one of the most breathtaking views across Starcross, the River Exe, and Exmouth.&nbsp;You can make your walk as long or short as you like, and there are plenty of easy, flat routes for all ages. There’s even a coffee hut at the top (<a href="https://teignbean.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Teign Bean</a>) which makes it the perfect morning walk spot.</p>



<p><strong>Awesome pitstop</strong>: The <a href="https://elizabethaninn.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Elizabethan&nbsp;Inn</a> in Ideford is one of my favourite pubs cosy, relaxed, and full of great food. Perfect for warming up after a fresh forest walk.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-cockington">Cockington</h2>

<p>Cockington is pure Devon charm. The village itself feels like stepping back in time, with its thatched cottages and winding lanes, surrounded by 450 acres of countryside. From woodland to lakes and open meadows, there’s a different walk for every mood and dogs are welcome everywhere.</p>



<p><strong>Pawsome pitstop</strong>:&nbsp;You can’t go wrong with&nbsp;<a href="https://weaverscottage.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Weavers Cottage Tea Room</a>. The staff are lovely, the resident dog Dolly sets the tone, and their cream teas (and cheese teas!) are just perfect. They even have a doggy menu needless to say, Bonnie’s tail doesn’t stop wagging when we’re there.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-tottiford-reservoir">Tottiford Reservoir</h2>

<p>Tottiford is one of those magical, tucked-away places where time seems to stand still. The reflections on the still water, the quiet rustle of trees, and the smell of damp earth make it feel miles away from anywhere. In autumn, the reds and golds of the trees are breathtaking.</p>



<p><strong>Pawsome pitstop</strong>:&nbsp;Head to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.thecleave.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Cleave</a>&nbsp;in Lustleigh afterwards. It’s a proper thatched Devon pub warm, welcoming, and always serving delicious, hearty food. Dogs are treated like royalty there, which is exactly how Bonnie likes it.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-fingle-bridge">Fingle Bridge</h2>

<p>Fingle Bridge is the definition of a Devon postcard the stone bridge over the River Teign, surrounded by ancient woodland and endless walking trails. You can take a gentle riverside route or hike up to the top of the gorge for panoramic views across the valley. The sound of the water rushing past is the most peaceful soundtrack.</p>



<p>Devon really is my happy place, big skies, muddy paws, and the best food spots tucked away in every corner. I may visit London for work now and then, but I’ll always come home to the moors, the beaches, and my favourite walking buddy, Bonnie. If you see us out and about, don’t forget to say hi &#8211; we’ll be the ones covered in mud, but grinning ear to ear.</p>
