<p>What a champion way to spend a morning! Muddy was invited to visit <a href="https://hydrolifehottubs.co.uk/contact/devon-hot-tub-showroom">Hydrolife</a> (Topsham sellers of jacuzzi and swim spas)&nbsp;to meet their ambassador, Olympic, World, Commonwealth, European Champion, Multiple World Record Holder and all-round nice guy, Adam Peaty OBE, for an inspirational talk with his friend and training buddy Ed Baxter. </p>

<p>Adam, who has one of Hyrdrolife&#8217;s <a href="https://hydrolifehottubs.co.uk/swimlife-spa-swimming-pools">swim spa pools </a>sunk into his patio at home, now spends some of his time travelling the UK and working to encourage and inspire future young Olympians.</p>

<p>You may have seen him chachacha-ing his way across our televisions on <em><a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/4VY0HwhVdRLrPf6z5qTfNwF/adam-peaty">Strictly Come Dancing</a></em> &#8211; which he confessed was harder than he had anticipated, impressive coming from someone who trains 365 days of the year.</p>

<p>Adam, 28, looks like a true Olympian physically, obviously, but he&#8217;s also an exceptionally good and inspirational orator. He talked with love and admiration about his coach, Mel Marshall, who has been with him since his boyhood days. </p>

<p>He spoke very honestly about his journey from a child with only a passing interest in swimming to being the world record holder for fastest ever breaststroke. He also talked about the burnout which followed the delayed 2020 Olympics, when 18 years of gruelling training finally took their toll and he was forced to take a break. </p>

<p>This year marks the return of Adam&nbsp;to full strength at all points of what he calls &#8216;<em>The Triangle</em>&#8216; &#8211; how he lives his life physically, spiritually and mentally, working constantly to find a balance between the three. </p>



<p>He was friendly and&nbsp;easy to chat with, although so abundantly full of good health that I was compelled to guiltily hide my piece of cake behind my back whilst I talked to him. I left him in the pool demonstrating his superb skills in the swim spa pool and giving pointers to the young budding Olympians, after nabbing him for a few tips:</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-hi-adam-you-are-a-total-inspiration-how-can-i-improve-my-swimming">Hi Adam, you are a total inspiration! How can I improve my swimming?</h2>



<p>Just keep doing it &#8211; even if it hurts. I believe absolutely anyone at all can achieve the physical challenge. The thing that is more difficult is the mental strength to keep going when your body says &#8216;no&#8217;. I am lucky to have natural talent added to the fact I have really long arms and big hands which really helps to push away the water in swimming.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What advice would you give to a child with Olympic dreams?</h2>



<p>Keep practising. Avoid weight training or heavy gym until you&#8217;re 18, especially heavy weights. I didn&#8217;t start training to win until I was about 15. And learn to say no to house parties! I was invited to loads of parties but had to have the discipline to say no if I was going to&nbsp; be at my best to train the following morning. (he did also point out that once you&#8217;re an Olympian you get invited to great parties)</p>

<p>At home in the Midlands, I still have the team that I started with and I think it&#8217;s important to stay with the same people and to be able to be there for my son, George.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What do you think when you jump in?</h2>



<p>&nbsp;I focus on the final 25 metres I visualise reaching the end first.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Where can we see you next?</h2>



<p>I&#8217;m currently deciding whether or not to actually take part in the world championships in&nbsp;February or put all of my focus into&nbsp; being on top form for the Olympics in Paris.&nbsp;</p>

<p>PS: While his tattoos are rather gorgeous, Adam&#8217;s not planning any more as his ADHD makes it hard for him to sit still for long enough. He sees his ADHD as a superpower not a hindrance as it helps him to hyper focus and he is clearly utterly intent on bringing home even more medals for the UK from Paris next summer. As I am now a super fan I for one will be cheering him on every stroke of the way.&nbsp;</p>
