Gotta Have It
I always love having a good nosey around Muddy Award-winning gift shop Insideout. Both the Exeter and Tavistock shops (online too, for out-of-towner’s) are always full of pretty, quirky and cool finds, from decorative homewares to handmade gifts and accessories, plus the latest Orla Kiely ranges; it’s rare for me to escape empty-handed, if I’m honest.
In particular, I’ve been coveting the range from One & Eight ever since I spied it sitting pretty on their shelves – it’s gorgeous, isn’t it? This jewellery brand, based out of a workshop in a rural spot in South Devon, specialises in cute and understated pieces which I think are perfect for everyday wear and bound to have you lapping up the compliments (and who doesn’t love a compliment?).
The artist behind the range, Susie Dorman has basically drawn on the beauty of her location, close to coast and moors, to design her collections, even, she says, inspired by our endless grey skies (every cloud and all that…!) The result is a range that spans handmade porcelain, brushed and hammered gold and silver earrings, necklaces and bracelets.
You can mix and match across the range, or choose matching pieces if you’d prefer to keep things simple. There’s nothing over-complicated about the designs, sticking to strong, timeless shapes like stars, circles, hexagons and discs.
The only flaw in all of this? The packaging is too goddam pretty to keep it all for yourself. I mean, how lovely are these little glass tubes?
We’ve been given a sneaky peek at the new Summer range (above) which is about to hit the shops in May and it’s another winner for me. I’m loving the ocean blue colour dip and the simplicity of the disc shapes – super easy to wear with pretty much anything.
What do you think? Too good to gift, or have I just made present-shopping that bit easier in future?
