<p>Perched above King Point Marina in the heart of the city, <a href="https://www.thedockplymouth.co.uk">The Dock</a> is right next to the ferry terminal, so you might never even clock it unless you&#8217;re hopping off on an overseas adventure.</p>

<p>But that would be a shame, as you&#8217;d be missing out on a fantastic indie café &#8211; and a fully licensed one at that  &#8211; with stunning views over swanky yachts and Plymouth Sound.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s owned by the same family who own The New Continental Hotel and contemporary Japanese restaurant KUKU, located upstairs above the marina reception, with 3-hour parking right outside, and a handy lift for buggies and wheelchairs.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">THE VIBE</h2>

<p>On sunny days, here&#8217;s a brilliant wake-up call for breakfast. Bright and welcoming, painted in fresh Scandi whites and blues that match those views. Glass-sided with a tongue and groove-clad bar to the right, and a balcony for tapping up on your Vitamin Sea.</p>

<p>I&#8217;m here for a working breakfast and it&#8217;s already busy at 9.30am, filled with an eclectic mix of mums with tots, port workers in high-vis jackets, and suitcase-toting holiday makers off on their hols. It adds up to an adventurous sea-faring vibe, and makes me wish I was off somewhere too &#8211; but not before I&#8217;ve tucked into a slap-up brekkie, natch.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">SCOFF &amp; QUAFF</h2>

<p>The menu was full of popular crowd-pleasers including pies, mussels, fishcakes and beer-battered fish, burgers, pork belly and pasta dishes, with a good choice of local Luscombe drinks and boozy choices.</p>



<p>Likewise, breakfast had the range of a hotel menu, covering continental style granola and pastries, to eggs every which way, a Boozy Breakfast and six different types of Full English, including vegan and their signature Dock Full English (so large it evoked an amused expletive from next-door when it arrived at their table).</p>

<p>Is it so wrong to turn breakfast into a three-courser? Nope, so I went first for granola and a smoothie.</p>

<p>Presented in a knickerbocker glory-style glass with a stripy cardboard straw, the smoothie was full of fresh raspberry flavours. The perfect early morning fruity hit.</p>

<p>Next up &#8211; fruity granola. I was impressed by all of it &#8211; the generosity of the serving, the size of a pasta bowl &#8211; the creamy good-quality yogurt and the farm-freshness of those berries. Plus, the milk was served on the side in its own little jug so no chance of a soggy bottom. </p>

<p>My date went for American-style pancakes &#8211; again generous, perfectly marbled bronze, a huge fluffy pile topped with crispy, sweet bacon, and dusted with icing sugar with more than enough sweet syrup. </p>

<p>To share, we tried a veggie brioche &#8211; a hearty stack filled with two veggie sausages, a meaty &#8216;shroom, a fried egg, thick wedge of halloumi and a fried tomato slice. I&#8217;d say that&#8217;s a subway bun, rather than a brioche, but I forgave it because otherwise it was perfect. And *smacks lips* look at the sausage:</p>

<p>A great veggie effort &#8211; packed with carrot, peas and herbs, with a crispy exterior. </p>



<p>My only quibble would be &#8211; it was a bit chilly when we arrived and, because we were sat on outdoor furniture up front (with the best views under a retractable roof) our seats had no cushions and were a bit chilly. That said, the heater overhead helped and staff were quick to adjust it when the sun came out. </p>

<p>Yep, thanks to the location, the dedicated reasonable menu, and the space for buggies. Here would be great meet-up for mums, or parents on weekend mornings when you want to get a toddler posse together.</p>

<p><strong>Good for</strong>: relaxed waterside dining; a working brunch; fast service for a pre-theatre bite; al fresco coffee or cocktails; a pooch pitstop on walks around the waterfront; Sunday lunch family meets; a shopping pitstop; a celebratory champagne breakfast.</p>



<p><strong>Not fo</strong>r: posh, it&#8217;s not a table-cloths and dressing-up sort of place by day; beer or lager on tap.</p>



<p><strong>The damage</strong>: Cappuccino £3.30 (plus 30p for oat milk); summer berry smoothie £4.15; classic pancakes with maple syrup £7.50 (plus £1.50 for bacon); veggie breakfast brioche £8. </p>
