<p>Want to relax, play or simply hungry? Then if you are passing <a href="https://www.blackpoolsands.co.uk/beach-cafe/">Blackpool Sands</a> at Blackpool, near Dartmouth, take a swerve down the lane and be assured of adding a special hassle-free experience to your holibobs. This well-known beach café, formerly the Venus Café and now under new management, is located at one of only a few privately owned beach coves and has an exclusive calming atmosphere (this one even has it’s own sandy car park).</p>

<p>Owned by the Newman family, who this year have formed a new culinary  partnership with Charlie and Zuzana Deuchar, owners of award-winning boutique hotel Baynards Cove, with a new chef, Grant Holloway. Their ambition is to refresh the food offering with local sourcing and by being mindful to the environment using zero plastic and new for 2023, a zero glass policy. And buoy oh buoy, it works.</p>

<p>Delve into the take away menu of breakfast (freshly baked pastries and baps) lunch or snacks which is filled with among others, scrummy local crab sandwiches. There are plenty of gluten-free options, such as a tasty chickpea curry filling, a great kids&#8217; snacks and pop menu, along with afters of local ice cream and tasty Voyager coffee sourced from nearby Buckfastleigh.</p>

<p>The fish and chips are locally landed and sustainably caught, while the curried monkfish scampi and chips are a dream with a jaunty twist of minted mushy peas. Plus, the likes of bottled beers from Torbay and eco-friendly wines called Sea Change Wine Co all contend to give you a great Devon day out.</p>

<p>By default this is a superb day out for kids and the bigger ones too.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">ACCESSIBILITY</h2>



<p>With level car parking and some dedicated Blue Badge parking next to café, wheelchairs users may need assistance which is available, but you&#8217;ll find plenty of levels areas to chill and eat. Toilets a-plenty on site including disabled, along with showers to wash the sand from between your toes.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">DOG-FRIENDLY?</h2>



<p>Alas, no dogs are permitted on this site, including the beach itself.</p>

<p>Ideally placed between Dartmouth (hop on the ferry from Dartmouth to Kingswear to explore Torbay) or carry further down into Kingsbridge and beautiful Salcombe with its pretty vistas and wonderful harbour side eateries. </p>

<p>Yes!  New free Après Sea Ibiza sessions, 4pm &#8211; 7pm every Saturday. Plus, the new beach shop is run by Red Paddle Boards, and offers an array of responsibly sourced beach goods and watersports equipment.</p>



<p>Opened this July and offered by<a href="https://www.seakayakdevon.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Sea Kayak Devon</a>, you can hire out stand up paddleboarding, sit on top kayaking, or take a guided tour looking at the coast and marine environment.</p>

<p><strong>Good for</strong>: chilling out at the coast or a spot of kayak and watersports; beach babe-style retail therapy. It’s a must for all, including families and ramblers. Plenty of room to park your bike &#8230;pedal or motor, for an energy-bursting pitstop while exploring along this idyllic coast line. Grab your towels and get on that paradisal (is that a word?) beach!</p>



<p><strong>Not for</strong>: dog owners.</p>



<p><strong>The damage</strong>: Fish and chips curry sauce and a monkfish tail scampi with minted mushy peas with two cans of soft drinks cost £36.</p>
