<p>Fancy a stroll to the Nine Maidens? The famous stone circle is less than a mile by foot from The Tors, which sits 1000ft above sea level, overlooking the wilds of Dartmoor. <p>Chart a course for the wonderful River Dart pub, The Maltsters where the new owners are gearing up for a banging Bank Holiday Sunday 24th August (from 5pm) with help from DJ Takeaway Dave, fire food and surf and turf. Formerly owned by TV chef Keith Floyd, the riverside pitstop is navigable from Dartmouth and Totnes and has moorings for boats and even an outdoor shower. <p>Keeping the kids happy <em>and</em> enjoying quality food and a classy ambience is very much on the cards at this countryside pub near Crediton. It scooped Muddy&#8217;s Best Destination Pub in 2023, the menu is topnotch and it has a big beer garden right next to a cute little play area. Incredibly for such a small village, Yeoford is a stop on the Exeter-Barnstaple line, so no need for a designated driver.</p>

Indoors is olde-worlde with cosy rainy-day corners (not this weekend thank you), and outdoors there&#8217;s a pizza shack where kids can make their own creations and you can down a Pimm&#8217;s. Plus, live music from local talent this Friday 22 August.</p>

<p>Over three hundred years old and going strong, this year&#8217;s Muddy Award-winning Destination Pub is a local legend for the quality of its live music and quirky vibe. Sure, it&#8217;s remote &#8211; sitting on Devon’s most southerly tip &#8211; but that doesn&#8217;t put off its many fans, locals and campers alike, here for the outdoor bar and pizza shack. Festival favourites, the Dub Pistols are playing here this Fri 22 Aug, and there&#8217;s still a few tickets available if you&#8217;re quick. </p>

<p>Behind the sands, tucked away down a skinny little lane, sits this magical old, pub under the tumble-down ruins of an ancient tower. It&#8217;s really atmospheric with dark-painted walls and candlelit tables, while the dishes the French chef save up are fabulous. Stick it on your list if you love old, characterful Devon pubs.</p>

<p>Named in a nod to the village&#8217;s nautical heritage, this dog and family-friendly St Austell Brewery pub makes a perfectly positioned pitstop if you&#8217;re walking the south west coast path or after a day on Hope Cove&#8217;s beach. On the menu it&#8217;s classic pub grub, with loads of great offers (including two for one Salcombe Gin on Sunday) while 11 boutique rooms await should all that gin make you sleepy. </p>
