<p>Missing the Med? Get thee to the Cary Arms where on a sunny day, with a glass in hand, sunnies on and the big blue of Lyme Bay below, it’s practically Kefalonia, only with jumpers *jokes*. Sometimes you even might spot see a friendly seal. Known for its gastropub menu, choose from Devon beef, Lyme Bay lobster and line caught seafood and tuck in on outdoor sun terrace. Make a night of it and stay in one of their stylish beach huts with use of the spa.</p>

<p>Practically on the sands in the chocolate-box village of Croyde, here combines thatched Devon charm, with beachy fun and its amazing ability to be a year-round hub for locals. It’s where everyone rocks up after a day surfing, swimming or lazing – young and old, families and couples. It’s one of those wonderfully welcoming places which brings everyone together – for the regular music and open mic nights, to sit under a parasol in the beer garden and the excellent locally-sourced menu which includes delicious burgers and their Roast on the Coast made from ethically produced Exmoor beef. They also press their own Crydda Cider with help from Sandford Orchards. It’s as much a pub as a way of life.</p>

<p>A young stripling at a mere 700 years-old, this one-time fisherman’s pub is right on the edge of the stunning beaches of Bigbury and Bantham with the Gatsby&#8217;esque Art Deco dream, Burgh Island Hotel, as it neighbour. If you don’t have the dosh for stay in the £400+ a night hotel, here’s the next best thing – an old smuggler’s haunt of a pub with stone flags, low ceilings, open fires and plenty of nooks and crannies to explore.</p>

<p>Perched on the cliff top at the end of Beer&#8217;s high street, The Anchor&#8217;s pet-friendly beer garden hits the spot if you&#8217;re after a 180-degree sea view. Nearby, there are 95 miles of windswept Jurassic Coast to explore or if you have littlies with you there&#8217;s the small play park just opposite &#8211; and, of course, that much-instagrammed pebbly beach and its still-working fishing boats just down the slipway.</p>

<p>Ah, the back beach! Always heaving when it’s sunny and right next to the sea and Teign estuary for stunning sunsets. If you get itchy feet, you can take the five-minute ferry over to Shaldon for a bevy at <a href="https://www.theferryboatinn.co.uk/">The Ferry Boat Inn</a> (also right on the beach and frequently with live music sessions) but the best sunsets definitely belong to The Ship.</p>
