<p>New England? Nope, it&#8217;s the view from Veg Box on Exeter&#8217;s quayside piazza, a pretty-in-pink go-to for Exeter&#8217;s in-the-know vegans. Here&#8217;s known for their tasty vegan wraps and smoothies, served up either outside on pastel-pink bistro tables, or inside their bijou botanical-themed café. Afterwards you can walk along the riverside, or head up to see the city sights, just a fifteen minute stroll away.</p>

<p>Surely one of the South Hams&#8217; stunning beaches, Blackpool Sands is home to golden sands, a brilliant summer music festival (hello Tunes on the sands), all sorts of hireable water-sports, and this Scandi-style eatery and takeaway. Grab a Voyager coffee, a pastry and a pasty, then head to <a href="https://devon.muddystilettos.co.uk/most-read/devon-sauna-steam-rooms-thermal-experiences/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sauna on the Sands</a> for a steam and de-stress.</p>

<p>Known for its award-winning ice cream, gelato and homemade pizza, this farmhouse kitchen has fabulous countryside views across the Otter Valley. Airy with huge glass sides overlooking rolling Devon hills, it&#8217;s a convenient mid(ish)-Devon meet-up (on the A30 near Honiton) with plenty of cross-generational crowd-pleasers. Do try their Otter Waffle &#8211; served with chocolate ice cream, whipped cream, honeycomb pieces and chocolate sauce. Dogs are welcome too but only on the outside picnic tables.</p>

<p>TV chef, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstalls café makes the rolling Blackdown Hills the star at his HQ café, as one whole side is glass, with sliding doors which open out into a terrace with panoramic views over endless greenery. You can&#8217;t quite see the white farmhouse where the River Cottage series are filmed (you have to walk down the hill for a peek), but you can&#8217;t go wrong here if you&#8217;re after a healthy, hearty lunch made with local and organic ingredients. <p>Harbour views, waves lapping below and Damian Hirst’s giant statue of Verity across the water &#8211; here feels like eternal summer even on cold days. When I popped in last summer, it ticked all my boxes &#8211; dog-friendly and happy to cater for kids, a cheeky cocktail, family meet-ups, with an airy, contemporary cabin feel &#8211; and Ilfracombe&#8217;s shops are just a short walk away.</p>

<p>Let the sunshine in! Perched on the upstairs floor of an all-day, seaside-style café, this glass-sided eatery sits above the marina right next to the ferry terminal. It’s family-run and feels it, serving up and all-day menu from brunch to salads, burgers, local-caught fish dishes, mussels and pasta. Plus, a dedicated menu for the ankle-biters, and Sunday lunch for when you can’t be bothered to put on the apron.</p>

<p>Ocean View at the Dome does exactly what it says on the tin, while serving up everything from daytime coffee and cakes, to lush afternoon teas and full lunch and dinner service. The ocean-liner inspired decor is an opulent treat to enjoy, with a huge central bar, even if you just pop in from walking the dog around Plymouth&#8217;s waterfront. Grab a window seat and enjoy people-watching, the panoramic views across the iconic Tinside Lido below and the boaty comings and goings across Plymouth Sound beyond.</p>
