<p>Opened back in November in Princesshay, Exeter&#8217;s new shopping district hangout specialises in coffees, Detroit style pizzas and small plates. Pop in for a chai, stay for Bang Bang Cauliflower Cheese, Korean Mac &amp; Cheese or a plate of Ramona&#8217;s Houmous, Chilli Oil, POP Pickles and Bread and King of Devon wings. </p>

<p>Fans of Pig &amp; Pallet, rejoice! After the closure of their Topsham eatery, they&#8217;ve made a comeback as South West Pizza Co &#8211; a pizza restaurant run by the same fabulous team and on their previous P&amp;P site. With 12-inch pizza starting from £7, you can enjoy a meal-out without breaking the bank. They use hand-cured meats produced on-site by charcuterie teacher ‘Salami’ Steve Williams, as well as Somerset mozzarella and Devon ice-cream. You can also buy charcuterie from them to take home to give your own pizzas that extra special flavour. Great news all round.</p>

<p>A very cool rustic restaurant with a kitchen garden and terrace out front, and with the topiary-filled National Trust gardens of Knightshayes within walking distance. Wood-fired pizzas are served every day 12-4pm, with Pizza Nights every Friday from 4pm. Warming in winter, even better sitting out in summer with a botanical cocktail and the last rays of sunshine. You can also do courses and workshops here, on suitably soothing bucolic topics, such as flowers and botanical art.</p>

<p>Want Tuscan vibes with your slice? Holly and Ali turned their market stall into a thriving indie pizzeria in one of Plymouth&#8217;s oldest and possibly most beautiful buildings, Prysten House. Their speciality is making their own-recipe of Neopolitan dough (a softer messier version the usual crust) which they craft into a light and flavoursome base. Book in or order a takeaway. </p>

<p>A family and dog-friendly American diner-pitstop, owned by the same family who own The Thatch in Croyde, and with the same high principles when it comes to sourcing quality, local ingredients. Their wood-fired pizzas are handmade to order, on bases that have been slow-proved overnight, hand pressed then flamed to perfection. Good for fans of spicy meats, piri-piri flavours and salami. Its busy roadside setting belies the quality and the stylish interior. Get it on your hit-list.</p>

<p>Berto&#8217;s scoop the prize for prettiest frontage, and this intimate eatery is full of life inside too: family-run, cosy and authentically Italian, with classic choices, including four cheeses, pescatoria and always a specials board. Take your own choice of tipple for a £5 corkage (Top tip: buy it from the excellent new <a href="https://bottleshopdartmoor.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bottle Shop</a> opposite).</p>

<p>A locals&#8217; favourite for its Mediterranean menu and beautiful setting of a restored Georgian building, right in the centre of Tavi. The alfresco terrace has a year-round buzz and their tear-and-share style pizza goes down nicely with their tempting range of fizz and cocktails.</p>

Head to this cool indie bar and kitchen where they specialise in hand-stretched sourdough pizzas topped with homemade toppings, including their secret recipe tomato sauce and house-roasted porchetta and roasted veggies. Their cocktail menu covers all the classics and their own signature collection, plus their own brand 7 Helles lager if cocktails aren’t your thing. Expect a mash-up of modern, laidback and olde-worlde &#8211; it&#8217;s in one of Barnstaple&#8217;s oldest buildings. Plus, popular with gluten-free.</p>

<p>Heres where Exeter&#8217;s pizza connoisseurs go, not just for the large range of veggie, vegan and gluten-free options but for the bespoke toppings. Pietro, who owns the Fore Street joint with partner Chloe, trained as a pizza chef in northern Italy and is a wizard at imbuing his veggie menu with those more&#8217;sh meaty spiced and smoky flavours.</p>

<p>Closed for the winter months but on here by virtue of winning Food Drink Devon&#8217;s Best Takeaway Award for their handmade Neapolitan pizza, served up from a cute blue horse box. Go for garlic and chilli marinated king prawns with hot and spicy Nduja or for veggies, The Allotment: chargrilled red peppers and courgettes, slow roasted red onion and sun-dried tomatoes with baba ganoush. Look out for their re-opening in Spring.</p>

Baked in their pizza oven, favourites include local &#8216;Far East Devon&#8217; with spiced lamb, shredded pickled onions, feta, on a green herb dressing base, harissa yogurt, or for veggies beetroot, goats cheese, homemade caramelized red onion marmalade, finished with rocket and honey.</p>
