<p>Let&#8217;s kick of by throwing chronological order to the wind with one that&#8217;s sure to supply an autumnal dopamine hit, thanks to heritage apple displays, apple pressing demos and the chance to taste. And you know what they say &#8211; an apple a day! And that&#8217;s not all &#8211; 40 local traders are setting up stall with crafts, seasonal produce, deli treats, while the wonderfully witty and affable food writer, Mark Diacono, will be getting you slightly sozzled with his botanical cocktail demos. Plus, a cider bar, live music and fun for the teenies, thanks to The Kid’s Adventure Company, a painted pebble trail and bird of prey displays from North Devon Falconry. </p>

<p>Not hiding their foodie cred under a bushel, the hospitality business of East Devon curate an annual 9-day food festival across East Devon which goes from strength to strength. This year&#8217;s event features more than 30 food and drink events, including exclusive dining experiences, tours and tastings at local coffee and chocolate producers, or you can learn about local wine, do a cooking or baking course, and even get your hands dirty picking apples in a local orchard or harvesting seaweed on the beach. The region&#8217;s finest foodies have put their shoulder to this wheel, including chef Michael Caines of Lympstone Manor, TV chef and author Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and River Cottage and the very Muddy approved hotel, The PIG-at Combe, so local quality is more than guaranteed.  </p>

<p>The English Riviera&#8217;s celebration of all things fishy has netted 40 different eateries across Brixham, Paignton, and Torquay to take part in this fab food festival, along with top chefs such as Rockfish owner Mitch Tonks and Michelin-starred The Elephant&#8217;s Simon Hulstone. It&#8217;s a must for seafood lovers, with 30 events, the potential for overnight stays and special menus right across Torbaydos. Events which have caught our eye include a waist-expanding seven-course tasting menu created by seven different chefs, a &#8216;catch and cook&#8217; off the pier at the Cary Arms &amp; Spa, and a Sandridge Barton vineyard tour paired with a delicious seafood meal. Or work up an appetite with a unique sea-swim experience followed by a rejuvenating sauna session and a sumptuous seafood dinner at Cantina. It&#8217;s the cod&#8217;s pollocks!</p>

<p>Surely the best value festival going (£5 adults/kids free), Powderham Food Festival has a fabulous setting of a 14th century castle deer park, and 100+ local food traders tempting you with their delicious wares. Go for talks, free tastings, and lots of demonstrations and workshops, including on gut health and locally crafted cider. Kids won&#8217;t be bored with lots to entertain, including a climbing wall, and erm, axe throwing, as well on-message Victorian baking sessions in the Castle and animal antics the form of goat walking and pony grooming. Take a picnic blanket, an empty belly and keep your fingers crossed for sunshine.</p>

<p>Celebrating their 20th anniversary in 2024, this upmarket town fest is a brilliant mash-up of workshops, demos and tastings, with the chance to meet more than 120 curated foodie exhibitors, mostly from our county. It&#8217;s also a chance to head to some of Dartmouth&#8217;s brilliant eateries, Andria, The Seahorse (above) and The Angel to name a few. The volunteer-run festival team also do a great job of sourcing top local and regional chefs to give talks, including Mark Hix, Jane Baxter, Matt Tebbutt, alongside wine experts Will Lyons, Susy Atkins and of course, the face of the festival, Mitch Tonks. For kids, there’s plenty on throughout including the Children’s Tea Party at the start of the Festival on the Thursday. Better dart to the Dart, we say.</p>
