Spare pair of pants? 6 Awesome Deals on Quick Getaways in Jan

I don’t know about you but I start to pout a little bit come the end of January.  I feel sulky that I’ve just endured a month of good behaviour/cold, dreary skies/the scales not telling me anything new/failed resolutions.  And fed up that a holiday seems a very distant speck on the horizon (I’m getting slightly hysterical just thinking about it).  But actually,  now is the ideal time to take off on a spur-of-the-moment escape to break up the monotony  as we prepare to trudge into February.  Pack that overnight bag and head off to indulge in one of these awesome deals available at a hotel near you, right now.  Off you go!

Weeke Barton, Dunsford – One to book a day off work for

This one’s an absolute no-brainer.  Get yourself to Dartmoor, set the sat-nav for Weeke Barton and hunker down for a few nights of windswept glamour.  (Actually, read my review first).  There’s everything you could possibly need for a quiet break in the country, from several walks curated by owners Sam and Jo, to a snug honesty bar complete with biodynamic wines (yep, that does translate as booze without the hangover) and a DVD library for cosy nights in bed.  You can dine in too, if you fancy one of Jo’s irresistible seasonal dishes.  You’ll find it hard to leave and, guess what?  You actually can delay your return to reality for a day because it’s 3 for 2!  I know!

The deal:  three nights B&B for the price of two throughout January; and in February, get a third night for 50% off.  Rooms range from £110 – £130 per night, for two sharing.

Hotel Endsleigh, Milton Abbot – One for payday

Hark!  What is that I hear?  Is it silence?  And oh, is that a falcon gliding overhead that I see outside? And isn’t that duvet so, so blissfully heavy and soft?  And…zzzzzzzzzz.  If you’re in desperate need of some serious R&R then I strongly suggest that you get yourself to Hotel Endsleigh pronto.  Olga Polizzi’s hotel in the country is waiting to wrap you up in a big, sumptuous hug.  Apart from a stroll around the enormous gardens in a pair of the hotel’s wellies, you’ll want for nothing more than the papers and some intermittent conversation with your other half.  Not too much mind, wouldn’t want to over-do it…

The deal:  A glass of champagne and canapés fireside in the lounge or the library on arrival; two nights of uninterrupted bliss, with a full English breakfast each morning; a three course dinner on one evening crafted by chef Jose Graziosi, with the sommelier’s choice of wine for each course; and scrumptious turn-down treats.  From £469 for two nights staying in a Classic room, based on two people sharing. Available until 29 March, excluding 10-18 Feb.

Glazebrook House, South Brent – tick-tock! don’t be late for this deal (*said the white rabbit*, sort of)

Have you seen my review of this dreamy Alice In Wonderland-inspired hotel?  Oh but you should have a read.  Then you’ll probably find yourself on autopilot checking out the website and before you know it, your cursor will be hovering over the ‘book now’ button.  Whoa!  Not so fast.  Let me first tell you about the Winter Warmth special they’re offering to guests at the moment, so that you can really get the ‘Glazebrook Experience’.  Are you sitting comfortably?

The deal:  From Sun – Thurs until the end of March, get a three course dinner from the a-la-carte menu for each night of your stay, a hot chocolate in the lounge bar, a cooked breakfast, free mini bar (I warned you about that, didn’t I?).  For stays of three nights or more there will also be a complimentary bottle of champagne.  From £239 per night in a standard room, £259 in a superior room and £299 in a luxury room.  Based on two people sharing.

Tel: 01364 73322.  glazebrookhouse.com

Bovey Castle – you’re not “doing” winter properly if it doesn’t involve a stay in a 5* castle

A stay at this Dartmoor destination is really just an excuse to romp around the countryside pretending you’re Lord and Lady of the manor for a day or two.  A bit of falconry?  Sure.  A spot of fly-fishing, perhaps?  Absolutely, Madam.  Maybe a detox in the spa, all part of the experience here.  This is about as Downton Abbey as Devon gets and now it’s being offered to you at a seriously tempting price.

The deal:  Until the end of March, grab an overnight stay, Winter Pimm’s, a three course dinner and breakfast.  From £219 Sun – Thurs and from £239 on Friday and Saturday.  Quote Winter with Eden when booking.

The Horn of Plenty, Gulworthy – Nobody can find you here

I’ve just been invited to try out this gorgeous-looking country hotel near Tavistock and I can’t wait, firstly because apparently the late and great David Bowie was a fan and because I have it on good, Muddy-approved authority that it’s a shoe-in for the guide.  I suppose you’re going to try and beat me to it, if I reveal what’s currently on offer here?  Whatever, just don’t drink the bar dry before I get there.

The deal:  Until the end of Feb you can have Dinner, bed and breakfast here from £159 per night.  And in March, from £179.  Excluding Saturdays and Valentines.

Tel: 01822 832528. thehornofplenty.co.uk

South Sands Boutique Hotel, Salcombe – reason #453,025 to visit Salcombe out-of-season

Come on, people, we know we’ve got to share Salcombe, don’t we?  Let the visitors enjoy it in the Summer, but come the winter, it’s all ours, right?  At this time of year, Salcombe is tranquil, the sales are on in the boutiques and at this gorgeous hotel on the beach, there’s bound to be a log fire crackling somewhere.   Are you still here?  Uh, why?

The deal:  on Sun – Thurs until 9 Feb, get 2 nights for the price of 1, with a fab champagne afternoon tea thrown in on the day of your arrival.  From £215 per room, per stay.
