What’s on this weekend
FRI 30 JUNE - SUN 2 JULY 2017
Devon Restaurant Month, throughout June
Oh my. Now this is right up my street. A celebration of food in Devon, where the county’s top restaurants come together and offer a packed programme of foodie events? Yes please. So, what’s on the menu? Well, take your pick, really. There are dozens of daily specials all month long. So glad I didn’t throw those elasticated trousers out.
National Cream Tea Day Celebration, Powderham Castle, 30 June
Next to Christmas, this is possibly my favourite day of the year and I’m in good company, it seems. For it was the Earl of Devon who played a significant part in the origination of the cream tea, way back in 977AD. So it’s only fitting that one should head to the Castle to indulge in a scone or two on National Cream Tea day. Cream first, of course; that’s one faux pas you don’t want to fall prey to.
Off the Surface Textile Exhibition, Devon Guild of Craftsmen, Bovey Tracey, Until Sun 9 July
Launched at the end of May, this new exhibition is a collaboration with the Royal School of Needlework and inspired by the RSN’s world-renowned Archive Collection, housed at Hampton Court Palace. With work produced by the school’s second year degree students, expect a visual feast of contemporary hand-embroidered beauties.
Daily 10am – 5.30pm at the Main Gallery, crafts.org.uk
