Another Spring at The Phoenix, Exeter, from Fri 4 May –Sun 17 June

Another thought provoking exhibition lands at the Phoenix this month. Curated by art historian, critic and curator Dr Jean Wainwright, Another Spring brings together work by a group of internationally recognised artists. The exhibition deals with questions about Western society, citizenship, identity and the fear of national invasion.

There are literally gazillions of events going on as part of this year’s Plymouth History festival: tours and guided walks; music and performances; talks; exhibitions and displays, plus a mobile trail that guides families on a tour of the Hoe with a focus on Plymouth’s rich history. Anita Reynolds: A Year on Dartmoor

Ahh, Dartmoor. Right on our doorsteps, but have you ever felt you only really get to see it in sunshiney glory, or in its drizzly magnificence? What about all the days in-between? Thankfully, this new exhibition at Bovey Tracey’s Devon Guild of Craftsmen reflects the changing seasons through prints, paintings and installations. The acclaimed printmaker has visited all 365 square miles of Dartmoor National Park and represented each with an artwork.  Cool!

It’s one of the few remaining festivals in the UK that is totally free and it’s still going strong, with tonnes of fun music and arts entertainment happening all around town for every member of the family, from music, to circus skills workshops and mud walks. Go show your support for Exmouth!

Gina Parr: Casting Off, The Brook Gallery Budleigh Salterton, Fri 25 May – Fri 22 June

Another fab exhibition is a-coming to the walls of the brilliant Brook Gallery, from an Exeter-born artist.  Gina Parr leaves behind the world of TV to bring soul-searching paintings. Looks good!
