The multi award-winning musical from the Royal Shakespeare Company arrives in Devon this month and, if the hype is to be believed, it’s one not to miss. The story, inspired by Roald Dahl’s much-loved book, is that of a little girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny. Book it, pronto!
Winter Feasting at WAHQ, Kingsbridge, Fri 18 Jan
It’s the middle of the most dreary month; the perfect antidote? A night of winter feasting with the girls at Wild Artichokes. These two run regular delicious pop-up feasts celebrating all the seasons and an evening of indulgence here is one to put on the to-do list for 2019.

Far from resting on their laurels following a magical Christmas, this fab children’s theatre rolls out another corker. This time, a heart-warming tale about Giuseppe, a carpenter, who carves a puppet out of wood and names him Pinocchio. One night a fairy comes to visit and hears Giuseppe wish that he came to life, she grants him his wish on condition that Pinocchio is always good. Join Pinocchio and his friend, Grasshopper, as they meet unsavoury characters and get caught up in mischief.
Exhibition: Criminal Ornamentation – Yinka Shonibare MBE curates the Arts Council Collection, Exeter RAMM Sat 19 Jan – Sun 17 March
Brighten up the greyest of months with an exhibition brimming with colour and pattern. Celebrated British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare MBE has chosen nearly 100 works by more than 50 artists featuring eye-popping art from film to fashion and ceramics to sculpture. From a sequinned dress by Alexander McQueen to 19th century William Morris Wallpaper, his selection tells a story of objects that refuse to be confined.

A brand new exhibition at this lovely gallery, showcasing a range of fresh and innovative work from emerging makers across the south west. You’ll be able to view ceramics, jewellery, glass and woven textiles among the exhibits, and most importantly, you’ll be supporting these newbies as they set out to carve a name for themselves.
