Le Navet Bete performs the Dumar classic with four actors playing 30 different characters, and choreographed by the internationally renowned Lea Anderson. A story of misplaced courage, friendship and dodgy swords: chaos is sure to ensue.

Haven’t you herd? Plymouth has 40 unique Elmer the Elephant sculptures on parade around the city. Head to to Royal William Yard or pick up a map from the tourist info office take your Elmer-loving littlie to get their selfie.
ART: Evolver Prize 2019, Thelma Hulbert Gallery, Elmfield House, Honiton, till end Aug
Featuring the winning cover art and 49 runners up selected by a panel of editors and other artists, Evolver 2019 showcases the best painting, photography and design Devon has to offer. All artwork is for sale and though the winner has been chosen – Debbie Lee’s Sack Race (pictured) – now it’s the visitors turn to vote for their favourite.
ART: Textures, Devon Sculpture Park, Mamhead nr Exeter, throughout August
Head to the UK’s newest open-air gallery near Exeter, set in 100 rolling acres of Capability Brown landscape gardens and filled with work by artist-owner Philip Letts. Known in the art world for his abstract photography from New York to Beiruit, Letts’ has created two exhibitions – indoor and out in the park – designed to make you think about climate-change and our often destructive relationship with nature.

Around 30-40 million nomadic people are living in our world today, some in harsh environments, and Gordon Clarke’s collection of photography allows an insight into the incredibly fascinating lives of these nomads. Tea, cake and a chat with Gordon included.
OUTDOOR ART: Trail Art, The Den, Teignmouth, until 1 September
Every year Trailart invites local artists, professionals, community groups and schools a chance to contribute to a sculpture trail, displayed on on Teignmouth’s sea front, with the aim of raising awareness about environmental issues through recycled art. The works are made from found materials and plastic waste, and cover troubling themes like plastic in the ocean, so just the thing for provoking good chats with the kids.
MUSIC: Sidmouth Folk Festival, Sidmouth Fri 2 – Fri 9 Aug
Sidmouth’s 65th folk festival is back: a seaside celebration of music, food and dance, plus craft stalls and circus skills workshops for the kiddies. There’s a firework display at the end of the week, so it’s sure to go out with a bang.
REGATTA: Teignmouth Regatta, Teignmouth Sun 4 – Sun 11 Aug
A week of watery fun with free entry for kids under 16 and beach-based activities for the whole family to get stuck into, or land-lubbers can just sit back and watch with a nice picnic.

When the kids get bored of the sun this summer, send them to a day of Music Mania at Torre Abbey where they’ll learn to write their own songs, perform and about music from all over the world. Let’s just hope they don’t come back saying they want to learn the drums.

Let their creativity flow! Local award-winning children’s author Laura Wall visits RAMM for an exciting storytelling and creative workshop for the Mudlets, with lessons in drawing Goose and a guided singsong. Plus, each kiddo gets a copy of the book to take home.
