An exciting evening for all the family? Look no further, Britain’s biggest theatre circus hits Exeter.


THEATRE: Educating Rita, Queen’s Theatre,  Barnstaple. Tues 3 – Sat 7 Mar

Stephen Tompkinson and Jessica Johnson in the best theatre production I have seen in the last couple of years. Solid acting, a play that hasn’t dated and vibrant, touching and funny as when it was first written: one not to miss.


ART: Space: Light and Sound Show, Exeter Cathedral, Thurs 5 – Sat 7 Mar

Luxmuralis brings its astonishing immersive son-et-lumiere show, ‘Space’ to Exeter Cathedral. You will be encouraged to move around the cathedral, to walk on the surface of the moon and feel surrounded by the stars.


FILM: Feminista Film Tour, Plymouth Arts Centre, Sat 7 Mar

A series of shorts about women and girls from around the world sharing inspiring stories of swimming, surviving breast cancer, singing, biking, cooking and more. Full of brilliant female role models if you’re looking for an insta antidote for youtube obsessed teens.


MUSIC: Music in the Galleries, Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter, Sat 7 Mar

Explore the galleries and  hear specially commissioned music performed by the musicians of Devon Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, inspired by objects in the museum’s collections.


MUSIC: Spring Jazz in Calypso, Calypso Artisan Coffee and Food, Sat 7 Mar

Come along and celebrate the arrival (hopefully) of the long awaited spring with the Maria Nicol Jazz Trio, relax with a drink and enjoy some well-known jazz tunes in the centre of Torquay.


WORLD BOOK DAY: National Trust around Devon, Sat 7 Mar

Get ’em off their screens and into books with help from the National Trust this weekend. Join the storytelling in the Victorian library at Cotehele, get them bookmark making at Knightshayes, or join the team at A la Ronde from 5-8 March, all dressed-up for the day, and find some World Books Day books for just £1.


FAMILY FUN: Roald Dahl Inspired Afternoon Tea, Ullacombe Farm Shop, Dartmoor, Sat 7 Mar

Inspired by World Book Day, here’ a scrumptious opportunity to have snozzcumber sandwiches with the BFG, the terrifying Miss Trunchbull and the Fantastic Mr Fox.



FOOD AND DRINK: Kitchen Pop-up, Canonteign Falls, Sat 7 Mar 

Combining the beauty of the falls, glorious local food (I’m especially looking forward to the Teignmouth mussels) and the chance to have a quaff of award-winning local wine from Swanaford Vineyard.


WOMEN: International Woman’s Day 2020, Exeter Phoenix, Sun 8 Mar

A day devoted to women’s workshops, art and dance, including talks on women’s employment rights, two hours of slam poetry, ope mic, clothes and book swap and chance to shake your shimmy learning Bollywood dance and belly dancing.


EXHIBITION: Royal Photographic Society: SW Region Biennial Exhibition, Torre Abbey, Torquay, until 22 Mar

Last chance to see the biennial exhibition of the Royal Photographic Society South West members’ work – visual art, landscapes, nature, people, travel and more.


GARDENS: Snowdrop Festival, The Garden House, Buckland Monachorum, until 31 Mar

Well worth a visit at any time of year, but especially when the little beauties are in bloom. This is The Garden House’s first snowdrop festival.


THEATRE: Amsterdam, Theatre Royal, Plymouth, Thurs 27 – Sat 14 Mar

The UK premiere from the Actors Touring Company, by prize-winning playwright Maya Arad Yasur – one which acts questions of our collective history and how our past influences our present, and how we treat each other.
