The Duck at Yeoford
Muddy says: Cor love a duck! You will this one. Yeoford’s village pub has a new name, new owners and a fab new seasonal menu – with a great vegan range and ooh, 200 wines by the glass. Shall we have a gander?
Waddle this way! Previously called The Mare and Foal, The Duck at Yeoford has been bought by James and Sarah Parkinson and opened back in March after a massive zhuzhing-up. James was previously executive chef for Von Essen Hotels and the food and beverage operations manager for Luxury Family Hotels – and he worked with Gordon Ramsay at his Chelsea gaffe, The Aubergine. Sarah’s an ex-AA inspector and was GM at Lewtrenchard Manor. It explains why they’re getting everything so right: they clearly know what they’re doing.
Go for: 20 wines by the glass (25 by the bottle) and a Fine & Rare List, and a seasonal menu with interesting British classics with a twist rammed with deliciously cooked ingredients. It’s heaven on a plate, honestly, the sort of place you want to keep going back to. Plus a really interesting vegan menu, children’s dishes and daily-changing specials.
The vibe is perfect – good for families, decorated in natural wood, greys and coppers and paintings the wall you actually want to buy. In fact, my other half went back and bought one for my birthday! If only he could buy the whole pub and move it next door. *sigh*
