Red Yew Studio
Think you know Pilates? Think again, Reformer Pilates is *reputedly* how songstress Adele shed the pounds and completely different from any Pilates you’ve done before, I promise.
Bored of Zumba and after better results? Fancy a workout in a shiny-new, stylish studio? Like your fitness instructors to overlook your appreciation for fine wine and cake (always)? Hot-foot your trainers to Red Yew Studio in the centre of Tiverton. Owner Stacy Weeks is the go-to for Reformer Pilates, a lesser-known version of the same core-boosting exercise but done on a ‘reformer’, a piece of sliding apparatus which give your muscles the same intensive work-out as mat-based Pilates but with even more precision.
The studio is a real beaut, on the first floor of Tiverton’s Grade 1 listed ex-library, a light and airy space, with period windows and an inspirational quote from the Pilates founder, Jospeph Pilates, inscribed on the chic, grey walls.
Classes include one-to-one, Duets with your friend or partner and weekly group sessions, and are taken by four highly qualified BASI (Body Arts & Science International) teachers, including Stacy herself, in small classes with lots of hands-on advice so you know you’re getting the most out of your work-out. I had a one-to-one with Stacy, and was really impressed – you definitely feel those muscles working – but you don’t build bulk, just tone. And Stacy is lovely, unjudgmental and a real inspiration. Find out why in my review here.
