Queen’s Theatre & Landmark Theatre
The play's the thing! North Devon has two fabulous theatres, run by Selladoor, including the region's largest, for musicals, plays, live music, dance and foodie fun.
Want to catch a West End show but don’t want to make the schlep to London? Queen’s Theatre in Barnstaple and The Landmark in Ilfracombe have you covered with *counts on fingers* at least three shows heading here from The Big Smoke in the next few months, including Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers and Footloose with Darren Day.
Or for a fraction of the price of a GWR ticket, you can watch a National Theatre screening, live from a London stage, such as Book of Dust (Phillip Pullman’s prequel to the His Dark Materials trilogy) and see big names, from comedians like Russell Brand, Jack Dee and Reginald Hunter to mountaineering legend Sir Ralph Fiennes and Strictly star Johannes Radebe.
Taken over by Selladoor in 2019, Queen’s Theatre is your traditional playhouse, in the heart of Barnstaple close to the Pannier market and the largest auditorium in North Devon while the The Landmark is an iconic purpose-built building, just five minutes from Damian Hurst’s giant Verity sculpture on Ilfracombe’s harbour.
Even when the players aren’t treading the boards, you can pop in to The Landmark’s dog-friendly eatery, The Quarterdeck, Monday to Friday for a tasty bite. It’s newly refurbed with stunning Channel views and they run kids’ drama and acrobatics workshops in The Pavilions, so a brilliant go-to for local parents.
Both have oodles of parking close to the venue and are fully Covid-compliant, so break a leg and get your act in gear! Go catch a show asap, daaarrling!
