Porsham Cakes

Did someone say CAKE? If you're after a Star Baker to create you something bespoke, exquisitely hand-crafted and made with the best ingredients Devon has to offer, you've come to the right place.

Need a Showstopper but don’t fancy your chances in the Technical Challenge? I can help! Well not me (obvs), but Tanya Luke of Porsham Cakes. She’s a whizz when it comes to occasion cakes: superb with sugar flowers, chocolate ganache, royal icing, you name the baking skill, she’s got it. And with ten years in the gateau game she’s nailed that ability to match the person to the parkin – she’s recently built a volcano cake from chocolate brownies (for a volcanologist, since you ask).

Having given up her job as a barrister’s clerk when her kids were small, Tan has spent the last ten years perfecting her art in what she calls the ‘cake room’ at her Devon farmhouse near Plymouth. It’s here you go to work out an initial theme and sketch for your cake – you get to drink tea and scoff on one of Tan’s cakes (lucky you) while she gets the gen on everything from how you met (if it’s a wedding) to your flowers, to dress and hairstyle, then comes up with a sketch.

She uses only quality ingredients, including unrefined sugar, eggs ‘from just down the road’, vanilla from Devon’s Little Pod and if you ask for a special ingredient, as a member of Food Drink Devon, she will always try and source from their directory. And it’s reassuring to know with so many unregistered bake-off businesses popping up lately, she’s also a Member of The Cake Professionals Network and the Association of British Wedding Businesses, and has all the food hygiene and insurance to back up her professional approach.

Can’t wait for that special occasion? No problemo! You MUST try her chocolate brownies by post instead. If you like ’em gooey, sweet (but not too sweet), rich and very chocolatey, order now. In fact if you’re reading this before 3pm, you can have have your sticky mitts on them tomorrow. And don’t forget to save me a piece.
