Peaks & Trails
Coast paths, countryside idyll and high-altitude thrills! If it's a safe but exciting guided walk you're after, Peak & Trails have it in their backpack.
Walking and fitness fans, and anyone who loves a cobweb-clearing stomp in the wilds – here’s your shortcut to hidden gems and awesome views from a remote mountainside (and possibly amazing glutes to boot.)
Run by Barnstaple local Jon Barnett, an impressive ex-forces and trained mountain leader of 15 years, he’s cleverly created a one-stop walking shop around Devon and beyond. Jon, who has deployed to the Artic Circle, Canada, Germany, Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Bosnia and Afghanistan *phew* has been awarded several commendations and while he used to be a Sergeant Major, you definitely won’t hear him shouting these days.
His walks are the hot ticket if you don’t want the hassle of having to plan and navigate your route. Jon and his team take care of everything, so all you have to do is turn up in the right gear – but even that is all advised on the website.
Each hike, whether guided or self-guided, comes with a recommended kit list, and is handily graded, from Easy (one boot print), Moderate (2 boot prints) and Hard (3 boot prints). Walks might last just the morning, say for a blast along the Cornish cliffs, or if the only way is up for you, to see the sunrise on Snowdon or to get the Three Peaks challenge under your belt, with an overnight stay included.
For walks with a stopover, Jon has carefully selected the accommodation to fit the holiday, choosing from a variety of tried and tested hotels and pub B&B’s where he’s stayed the night himself and probably enjoyed a few apres bevvies with the walkers.
Because Jon and his team are so experienced, you know you’re in safe hands whether you’re braving the Brecon peaks or out on Dartmoor in all weathers.

So, how about it? Maybe a wellbeing weekend with your gals? A bonding experience with one of the kids, or one for the betrothed – a healthy hen party? A brilliant way to have fun, meet new people, and pop a brand-new fitness feather in your cap.
