Rockfish, Exeter Quay
MUDDY SAYS: If you like a better class of fishy on your dishy, come to Rockfish. The canal and riverside setting feel like you’re eating outdoors on the quay all year-round and the fresh, flavourful seafood is to die for.
Rockfish and Mitch Tonks are bywords for quality fish in Devon. The latest eatery to join seafood guru Mitch Tonk’s shoal of six Rockfish restaurants, Rockfish on Exeter Quay is a cool canal-side cafe with a beach-shack vibe and outdoor terrace by day, and by night a glowing amber jewel of a restaurant with comfy lagoon-blue bench seating, in-view galley kitchen and a fabulous range of freshly caught Brixham fishies.
Come here with the family to watch the river life literally swanning by (Muddlets get a free Ocean Protector Pack to play with), for nights out with the girls or a romantic bite for two.
Highlights include their own team-selected Xarello wine; bottomless chips; a carafe of free still or sparkling water with your meal; sliding doors out onto the quay which peel back in summer; fresh fish caught locally available daily and a great knowledge of what’s on the menu from the waiting staff. Dog-friendly provided you abide by the paws on the floor policy.
A fifteen minute jaunt downhill from the city centre, or park in one of two car parks opposite the piazza, its Quay location is perfectly placed for walks or bike-rides along the flat, boat and paddle-board hire and under-arch shopping across the river.
