Lyme Bay Winery
Muddy says: Not sure what a winery is? Here’s your chance to find out! (Hint – it’s like an off licence, only better, and you get to taste everything before you buy.)
First let’s clear something up – Lyme Bay is a boutique winery and rustic shop not a vineyard, so you won’t find any vines and tours here, just great retail therapy, tastings and top-notch advice. They’re famous for their unique, not on the high street fruit wines, like something your granny might have concocted (only better), as well as award-winnning English wines. Waitrose stock it, so it must be good.
They source their grapes from vineyards around the UK, meaning they can take their pick of the best of the season, producing five still wines (white and red) and four sparkling including two rosé. It’s a fun trip out as you can sample pretty much anything at the cask-scented counter, from the mead (fermented honey), to ciders, liqueurs, rum and yay, gin – all in miniature tumblers made of glass, not plastic – a nice touch.
It’s a great gift destination, especially for seasonal flavours and Christmassy fayre. Planning a wedding? If you’re looking for a award-winning wedding wine, here’s your place for a tasting and they also do five flavoured gins, including a small gift set of in 25cl gins which make great favours. Mention Muddy for a 10% discount. You’re welcome!
