Lincombe Hall Hotel & Spa, Torquay

Lovebirds, ahoy! Fancy a romantic stay and a defrazzle in a jaw-dropping new £2m spa in South Devon? This boutique hotel in the leafy Torquay 'burbs combines old-school glamour with modern design you will love.

Weekend Escapes

Lincombe Hall Hotel, how do I love you? Let me count the ways! The combo of classic-contemporary Victorian style, the city-style spa; the genteel vibe and leafy Torquay suburbs, and – here’s the best bit for lovers of romantic stays (or just make that lovers) – it’s adults only. No kids to deal with for a night or two, whoop!

But first, let me tell you about the jaw-dropping £2 million spa. Found below stairs in a modern sanctuary, here you can take a dip in a 15m indoor lap pool, bubble in the 10-station hydrotherapy pool, smoulder in a steam room and sauna, and then cool off with a refreshing scrub in the ice room. There is also a salt room, pretty pink  and lined with Himalayan salt blocks and when you’ve cleared your tubes and your mind, treat yourself to a Temple Spa facial or Jessica mani in a treatment room.

When the English Riviera sun shines, there’s an outdoor terrace to sip your Sauvignon by an outdoor pool. And once you’ve finished your bubbles and a-bubbling in the hot tub, the pretty harbour and seafront await, with its vibrant night life and theatre.

Foodies are well catered for with two hotel restaurants, serving either a traditional three-course menu or more contemporary dishes in the Brasserie. Or shimmy down the hill to the harbour to the Michelin starred restaurant, The Elephant.

Owned by Powis Hotels since 2010, the family owners have invested impressively (and are continuing to update) this 4* hotel, and I look forward to going back and back again, and again! There’s seriously nothing like it in South Devon. Plus, they don’t do weddings (sorry brides), so you won’t be tripping over tipsy guests when ordering your Plymouth Gin at the bar. Let’s just keep it our little secret, shall we?
