Langstone Cliff Hotel
Muddy says: Pack your bucket and spade, we’re off to a great-value, family-friendly beach hotel for sun, sea and surf – and Exeter just 13 miles away.
This family-run hotel has a gate from the garden that takes you straight onto the coast path down to Dawlish Warren beach just five minutes away. Younger kids will love the added thrill of the trains racing by on the most scenic railway line in Britain, which runs between the beach and cliffs (don’t worry, it’s just a distant rumble from the hotel). Plus, there’s fish and chips, black swans and a putting green just a twenty-minute amble away along the sea wall at nearby Dawlish.
It’s brilliant value too – do check out their half term and holiday offers. Choose from 64 en-suite rooms, many with sea views and some with balconies, and 6 family rooms. And get this – you can take two littlies aged under 10 for FREE, including all their food when sharing a family room with two adults. I know! The dog is welcome too, though not in the eating room and it’s strictly paws on the floors, please. There is an indoor and shallow outdoor pool, a games room and a play area to entertain them, plus tennis courts and 18 acres of wooded grounds to wander, so they won’t get bored.
When the sun shines, you could be far, far away, and that lawn and Victorian verandah overlooking the sea is a gorgeous place to lounge and soak up the laid-back Devon vibes, especially with one of their delish cream teas or a local gin from the bar. Its quiet, calm and chilled, exactly the right place if you’re looking to book in for a stay with your parents or in-laws too – just charming.
