Kineta Tea

Batteries in need of a recharge? (Yup, always) Or just want to up your health game? Get your chops around Kineta Tea, a tasty range of matcha teas, energy bars and tea-making accessories.

Say hi to Leane Tilley, the energetic owner and founder of Kineta Tea, based on Dartmoor. Leane is one of those inspirational women who live their brands. Peachy, healthy and uber-fit, she got into matcha tea because she used to race road bikes and found normal energy drinks and bars too sweet for her. Then, on a visit to Japan a few years ago, she saw it growing in tea fields while out walking. Impressed by the magnetic energy of the Japanese pensioners overtaking her up the hillside, she wished she could bottle it up and take it home. So, that’s exactly what she did.

Now, Leane has her ceremonial-grade (the juicy tips) grown organically and stone-ground on a tea plantation just outside Uji, in Japan, and turns it into tea, energy bars and snacks and sells them online along with a tasteful range of gift sets and matcha accessories.

If you don’t know much about matcha tea, its health-giving powers are legendary. It’s like coffee in that it gives you a boost, but with far less caffeine and a slower-release. Just two cups a day can increase your metabolism, help you lose weight, improve your skin and help shift stubborn belly fat. While it’s a wellness trend now, Zen buddhists have appreciated its energy-boosting powers for centuries and would take a cup before embarking on their day’s meditation. (check out  Kineta Tea’s FAQ page for more background).

I’m mad for her Mint Matcha which you can shake up in a water bottle and take with you for a boost on your bike or hike, and her energy bars, which are seriously so moreish I’m having to hide them from the kids.

Leane is quite an inspiration, having only been in business five years, with her teas now sitting on the shelves of Selfridges, Daylesford Organic and locally at Darts Farm, near Exeter. Check Leane out on instagram for a nose. And she’s as fit as a fiddle. I guarantee you will want she’s having, and now you can.
