All hail, Exeter Gin! Is this what the Romans drank when they came to the West Country? If what we've tasted is anything to go by, they would, if they could! Saluti!
It came, it saw, it conquered! A celebration of the city’s Roman heritage, this premium hand-crafted gin from talented Teignmouth businesswoman, Karen Skerratt, owes its spicy but smooth flavours to traditional Mediterranean herbs as brought to the city by the Second Augustan Legion in 55AD. Enjoy its 16 botanicals, including coriander, basil and fourteen others from the four corners of the Roman world with a splash of Luscombe or Feverfew tonic, citrus flavours and a sprig of tarragon.
Victorious in the Food & Drink Devon Awards, and winner of a Silver Award at Taste Of The West 2018, it now has reinforcements in the shape of another pesky Devon invader, Ivaar the Boneless, a 57% navy strength gin.
This family-run estuary-side distillery also makes the popular Granny Garbutt’s, inspired by their gin-loving granny (who else?) and they have just launched a brand-new Exeter Gin and Granny Garbutt Gin School and Bar, complete with miniature copper stills, above their distillery in Teignmouth. An army may march on its stomach, but a gal chills on a gin. Saluti!
