Tea and a walk around a beautiful manicured garden? Get your chops around homemade festive cakes and mince pies, a selection of finger sandwiches and a glass of mulled wine or pot of tea/coffee, all prettily presented on a traditional tiered stand. £31pp including entry to the garden.
Winslade Manor, Clyst St Mary
Want to take festive afternoon tea in an elegant Georgian manor? You won’t be disappointed with chef Matt’s chocolate delice reindeers. Aren’t they just deer? £30pp
A Christmas cream tea for our times, Ullacombe Farm Shop’s Twisted Afternoon Tea for Two is a whopper and has already sold over 3000 times to satisfied customers, featuring turkey and cranberry sarnies, pigs in blankets, chocolate fondue, and traditional scones. £25pp with a soft drink or hot chocolate and £30 with bubbles.
Only a Mad Hatter would miss afternoon tea at this quirky (and Sawday’s approved) boutique hotel, filled with retro decor and curios straight out of Alice in Wonderland. And it’s your last chance – they’re shutting up shop in January 2022 *sniffles into hanky*.
Can I tempt you to a clotted-cream scone and a glass of Champagne in a contemporary riverside hotel? Treat someone who’s been nice-not-naughty this year to an afternoon tea voucher (available online) here or snaffle it yourself. Plus, there’s loads of lovely indie shopping to be had in the town’s galleries and gift shops afterwards. £42 for two.
Want to take tea in a grand old manor dating back to the Domesday book, complete with roaring fires and a sparkly tree reaching the rafters? Boringdon is all dressed up for Christmas, so book your seat by the huge mantel for Reindeer Dust Macaron, White Chocolate Christmas Tree and Spiced Treacle Tart & Vanilla Cheesecake. £27 per adult, £9.50 per child. Mulled wine available on request.
Make it a grand day out at upmarket Bovey, where everything from Barbours to ball gowns is de rigeur. Pinkies aloft for a selection of festive fancies, mince pies, freshly cut sandwiches and homemade cakes. Book in on a weekday for a cheaper deal (£35pp) others it’s £40 each on the weekend, with £10 extra if you want to add a glass of fizz or mulled wine.
Where better to make merry than the home of world’s first Christmas card? It was designed here by the original owner, John Callcott Horsley (one for your Christmas quiz, your’e welcome). The Orestone Sparkle costs £24.45pp and they do online vouchers if you’re looking to treat someone special.
Missing you’re picnics? Try this rustic afternoon festive tea of homemade goodies quirkily served on a small oak bench. Tuck into a warm pasty and scone, with either a tasty cuppa tea or fresh filter coffee, or glass of bubbles for something more special. And before you let out your belt a notch, the picture is for four people (greedy) £16.50pp or £21.95 with tea/coffee or prosecco. Booking required 24 hours in advance and a £5 deposit.
Lots of festive treats on offer at this boutique hotel (which Muddy adores btw) from just coffee and mince pies for £5pp plus either a traditional cream tea or for £23pp a tempting savoury version with brie & cranberry crumpet, cheese scone, turkey and stuffing bonbon, stilton and port tartlet, ham hock & pistachio terrine, miniature Christmas cake. Pack your boots as lovely walks abound for a healthy stomp out after.
Take a break from the Christmas-shopping madness with Hotel du Vin’s tea with a twist, including mince pies, cakes and scones with seasonal sandwiches and savouries. Served with your choice of tea, coffee and a glass of champers. £29.95pp.
