11 Cracking Christmas wreath workshops

Deck your door with boughs of holly! These local festive craft classes taking place in December are hugely popular so book now and get your porch gussied up for Christmas.

This Christmas might look a little different, but we’re still prettying up our doorways with as much greenery and baubles as they can handle (because hey, if you can’t go a little OTT this year, when can you?). 

If you fancy having a crack at creating your own Christmas wreath, socially-distanced workshops in Devon are still running in December (some come with free festive tipple btw). But be quick to book as tickets are selling like hot mince pies. Secateurs at the ready, let’s go!

Riverford Wreath/Garland workshops, Riverford Field Kitchen, Buckfastleigh, 3, 12, 15, 19 Dec

Join Riverford’s head gardener Penny Hemming for a morning wreath-making session on 3 Dec, using fragrant evergreens, traditional holly springs and berries, or a garland for your mantel or bannister on the other three dates. £49

If it’s a spot of luxury you’re after with your Christmas wreath making, maybe this South Hams hotel is the destination for you. Muddy award-winning florist Hannah Burnett will be doing the honours and you can choose from afternoon or evening sessions. Includes tea/coffee and homemade mince pies. £36.95 pp

Wreath Making at the Palace Theatre, Paignton, 5 and 12 Dec

Get a gorgeous traditional wreath and support Paignton’s hard-hit theatre. Win-win! All materials provided, as well as a mince pie, hot chocolate or mulled wine. £20 pp

Bovey Castle Wreath Making, North Bovey, 4 ,5, 11, 12 Dec

Choose from morning or afternoon sessions and make a wreath using foliage foraged from the estate. 1.5 hours and includes a hot chocolate, plus if you want to bring along a partner, there are other activities running concurrently, including clay shooting, archery or air rifle shooting. £35pp or add £20 if you fancy an afternoon tea too.

The Duke of Cornwall wreath making workshops are in the capable hands of Wildflower Floristry and they have even organised a back-up plan whereby they will deliver your wreath in kit form to your house and you may join them on a zoom session if cancellation is necessary. £40pp with refreshments included.

Wreath Workshop, Exeter Phoenix, Gandy St, Exeter, Sun 6 Dec

A regular tutor at the Exeter Phoenix, fine artist and ceramicist Sarah John will be leading this half-day afternoon workshop using all-natural materials to make your fabulous festive wreath. No refreshments included, instead you get 10% off in the cafe. £35

Make your own decorative and natural festive wreath in this evening session in the magnificent Elizabethan surroundings of Boringdon Hall. Mince pies, tea and coffee will be provided, all materials are included and you’ll take your creation home to enjoy throughout the festive season. Non-refundable but if they have to cancel they will send you a wreath-making kit. £47.50
