Get suddy with Muddy
Hand-washing just got more interesting thanks to ethical soap from Exeter's brand-new indie, Soap Daze. And we have three gift sets to give away!
Wanna do your bit for #plasticfreejuly? Naturally! (pardon the pun) I have just the thing, having stumbled across a gorgeous new ethical soap store, Soap Daze, in Exeter’s indie quarter.
Now I know we’ve all washing our hands a teeny bit more than normal recently but step off Fore Street and into this scented sanctuary and you’ll be doing a lot more, believe me. It’s suds heaven. Neatly stacked wooden rack upon rack of oh-so sniffable no-nasty bars and soaps on ropes – catnip for humans.
Handmade in her converted garage workshop in Heavitree by lifelong Exeterite Sharon Mitchell, everything is 100% natural, plastic-free, vegan and free of palm oil and full of nourishing plant oils, botanicals and essential oils.
Once she’s worked her magic at home, Sharon brings the soap to the shop to cure for four weeks before being cut into bars, beautifully packaged and put out on the shelves.
The shop may be brand-spanking new (previously Sancho’s men’s store) but Sharon already has a big following from years of exhibiting at Exeter’s craft markets, not just for her soap but also for vegan wax deodorants, shampoo bars and scented candles. And if you’re not getting into the city much at the mo, you can also buy her soap and skincare online.
As you’d expect Sharon is a committed vegetarian, but it was a love of chemistry and a challenge from a friend when she was working at the South West Water labs that got Sharon into making soap. Check out the chemical equation on the wall if you don’t believe me! (I’ll test you later.)
Her latest Harmony range is really personal as the six new soaps are named after Sharon’s favourite songs and bands. Her fave, Replica, is scented with lavender and vetiver which gives it a really more’ish earthy, woody fragrance. If you like this, you’ll also love Joy, fragranced with sandalwood and Echo Beach for its grapefruit and pungent seaweed tones. My hands are currently slathered in Barefoot as the eucalyptus and pine scent reminds me of being on holiday and Mr Muddy has taken a liking to a charcoal one called Canyon.
Fancy lathering some of Sharon’s lovely smellies on yourself? Well, now you can as I’ve snaffled three beautiful Soap Daze gift sets worth £82.50 for three Muddy readers. Slide over to our Muddy Devon Reader Treats for your chance to win.
