Gotta have it: veg-inspired tableware
Never mind Clarkson's Farm. If you want to get into the harvest spirit, treat your table to fruit and veg-inspired Portugese pottery.
In case you haven’t noticed, veg is IN. Thirteen million #vegetables on Instagram cannot be wrong! Even fashion designer Anya Hindmarch has got in the act with her Belgravia village stores (yes, really). If your lunch isn’t plant-based and your supper not rammed with veg box goodies from Riverford, then get nibbling those carrots, dwaaarling.
Cramming in your five a day (or is it ten now?) while watching Clarkson’s Farm on catch-up is one way of celebrating the harvest – but another one to add to basket is fruit and veg-shaped tableware from Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro.
Based on original designs by the 19th century Portuguese artist, this intricately hand-painted Cabbage Platter (£30) is so darn hot it’s practically steaming (so much nicer than boiled).
More of a fruity gal? How about this Orange Earthenware Pitcher (£56.50), surely the perfect way to bring a zesty, sunshine feel to autumn mealtimes.
Grab them both (or buy online) from the brilliant Mercado (above) in Topsham. Owner Sara, who was born in Portugal and grew up in Plymouth, imports the pottery, along with authentic Portuguese wine, chocolate and groceries. Viva veggies!
