After a handmade Chrimbo card? Say it with cake
Missing the European Xmas markets this year? Add a dash of foreign flavour to your Yule with these stunning cake-inspired cards instead.
Looking to shop local for your Chrimbo cards this year? I’ve got my beady eye on these adorable handmade European Christmas Cake Cards to send to my far-flung nearest and dearest.
I discovered them while scrolling around new online gift shop, Ginger Zebra. Aren’t they beautiful? Just the ticket to whisk you away to foreign fields if you’re missing the glühwein and snow-sprinkled stalls of Christmas markets abroad this year.
You get five original cards in a pack, each illustrated with a European Yuletide cake, including Portuegese Bolo Rei, holly-topped Panettone and Makowiec (Polish poppy seed roll), a towering Scandinavian Kransekake, and choc-topped Bûche De Noel (Yule log to you and me). All the greats!
And on the back, there’s beautifully hand-written detail about the cake and how it’s used in the country’s festive traditions. Just delightful.
They’re the work of illustrator, Delphine Jones, a long-time friend of Ginger Zebra owner Zoe, who loves to support and collaborate with local artists and makers. Delphine also creates the most exquisite drawings of insects and wildflowers, all drawn in her garden studio in Bridport just over the border in Dorset.
One for the foodie in your life or perhaps a strident Remainer? Though if you prefer something closer to home, there’s also the Foodie Xmas Card pack, featuring more familiar mince pies, cheeses and gingerbread decorations. Maybe a safer bet for Brexiters and fans of that much-loved British staple, Brussels sprouts.
But whichever cake you prefer on your plate on this Chrimbo, make sure it’s a big fat slice of local like these – and at £10 a pack they’re a total bargain. Plus, they’re ethically produced, plastic-free and printed on lovely thick card, sustainably FSC of course. And a taste of the bread we’ll be breaking with our loved ones when we hook up again soon.
Christmas is only 44 days away so don’t dawdle, pass me a piece of the panettone and go snap ’em up!
Ginger Zebra (Honestly, any time you need a laugh, go scroll this site. The witty cards and candles are a hoot.)
